Strictly star and opera singer Wynne Evans has come under fire in recent days for lewd comments leading to him being taken off his radio show and the Strictly Live Tour
Controversial Strictly star Wynne Evans has split from his girlfriend after he left her ‘humiliated’ over his lewd sexual comment on the Strictly Live tour, an insider has claimed.
The Go Compare singer, 53, began dating Liz Brookes, 50, early last year following the break-up of his 16-year marriage to the mother of his two children.
However, a litany of offensive remarks and scandals has led to the pair going their separate ways.
Events manager Liz, 50, was often spotted cheering Wynne on during his Strictly appearances. However, the Welsh opera singer has been under fire in recent days and it seems revelations he used the term ‘spit roast’ – meaning a lewd sexual act – when speaking to Strictly Live Tour host, Janette Manrara may have been the final straw.
It was also revealed Wynne made a hugely demeaning swipe to Janette during the launch in Birmingham when he sang out ‘Go compare’ before adding: “Not too close to Jamie [Borthwick]”.
He apologised for his language but earlier this evening (January 28) confirmed he would be taking an agreed break from his radio show and the Strictly Live tour.
Wynne said he had agreed with the BBC to “take some time out” from his radio show and the Strictly Come Dancing live tour “to prioritise my wellbeing”.
He said in a statement: “I’ve agreed with the BBC that I’ll take some time out from my radio show and the Strictly Live tour, as well as my other public commitments, to prioritise my wellbeing.
“I am deeply sorry for the pain my inappropriate actions have caused, and plan to take this time for self-reflection. Apologies to those I won’t get to see at the remaining performances and I’m grateful to my fellow tour gang for all the amazing support they have given me.”
Speaking to The Sun, the insider claimed: "It's not clear exactly when they split, but friends say that when his latest lewd gaffe was revealed at the Strictly Live Tour launch she was relieved they were no longer together."
His axe and eventual split from his girlfriend comes after an insider revealed: "He's had repeated warnings about his behaviour and told to reign it in.
“He's not been taking it in, in this day and age, the BBC have to be seen taking action and safeguard everyone.”
Initially, the spotlight shone on Wynne’s behaviour during his time on Strictly when he was seen sliding his hands across the stomach of his pro partner Katya Jones.
Although Katya defended Wynne at the time of the first scandal, insisting it was an ‘inside joke’ between the two of them, insiders say it has been ‘difficult’ for Liz since then.
