Khloé Kardashian recalls ‘pivotal moment’ in Lamar Odom marriage that led to divorce: ‘It was so profound’

Khloé Kardashian reflected on a “pivotal moment” that led to the end of her marriage to Lamar Odom.

On Wednesday’s episode of her “Khloé in Wonderland” podcast, Kardashian sat down with Mel Robbins, who asked her whether she’s ever been in a situation where she knew what she needed to do but couldn’t make herself do it. And that’s when the Good American founder shared a story from her relationship with the former Los Angeles Lakers player.

“I remember, I was married and my ex-husband had a drug addiction. And I knew that his addiction always heightened — he was in the NBA — and his addiction always heightened when he was in the off-season, cause idle time is the devil’s playground,” she started.

“I was begging, ‘Please, please go to Team USA,’ and I was pushing, and I remember he just looked at me and said, ‘You can’t want it more than I do,'” she told author Mel Robbins during the episode. Kevin Mazur

“And so I remember he was asked to go to Team USA, if I remember correctly, and I was begging, ‘Please, please go to Team USA,’ and I was pushing, and I remember he just looked at me and said, ‘You can’t want it more than I do,'” she said.

Kardashian, 40, was told that she “can’t suit up” and play the sport for Odom, 45, despite wanting the best for him during his drug addiction.

“But I remember when he said, ‘You can’t want it more than me’ and ‘I don’t want it’ — it was so profound,” Kardashian told Robbins.

“It’s so silly, ’cause I know that. But I wanted it so badly, because I wanted to help him and to get him to feel the motivation and feel good, but he just wasn’t in that place,” the 40-year-old said. X/@khloekardashian

“It’s so silly, ’cause I know that. But I wanted it so badly, because I wanted to help him and to get him to feel the motivation and feel good, but he just wasn’t in that place.”

“It took me a long time to get to, then I had to file for divorce,” she continued.

“That was a very pivotal moment in my life because I remember that statement being like…’Yeah, you’re right. I can’t want your life more than you.'”

Near the end of the conversation, Kardashian revealed that her ex’s drug use changed the way she looks at relationships.

“In hindsight, I was like, I don’t wanna be with someone that does [hard drugs], even just a little. Because it could easily be a slippery slope. But you are in love and you’re like, ‘It’s fine,'” she said.

During last week’s episode of her podcast, Kardashian confessed that her divorce from Odom “was a lot harder” than her split from Tristan Thompson.

“With my first husband, I was younger and I think that was a lot harder for me,” she told Jay Shetty on the Jan. 22 episode.

“But what’s interesting was with each relationship where something bad has happened, I didn’t take it and was like, ‘Whoa is me. I’m this victim.’”

Kardashian and Odom got married in 2009. They separated in 2013 and finalized their divorce in 2016.

She then dated Thompson, 33, on and off from 2016 to 2021. The Cleveland Cavaliers player had a pattern of infidelity during his relationship with the reality TV personality, which ultimately ended their union.

The exes welcomed two children together, including daughter True, 6, and their son, Tatum, 2.
