Sinead O’Connor’s funeral cortege passes through her hometown

Sinead O'Connor left her estate, which was worth £1.7 million gross, to her children with instructions to "milk" her music.

Irish probate records reveal the mum of four's bequest was reduced to £1.4million after debts, funeral costs and legal fees were taken into account. Details of her British estate have not yet been released.

The document was signed in 2013 before she converted to Islam. “My children can dispense my ashes as they see fit,” the singer who sold 6.2million albums worldwide, instructed.

She added: “I direct that after my death, and at the discretion of any of my children who are then over 18, my albums are to be released so as to ‘milk it for what it’s worth’.”

In addition to this, she had planned for her son Shane to inherit her religious regalia. Sadly the teen took his own life at the age of 17, just 18 months before his mother died. Her youngest child, Yeshua Bonadio, 18, was to be given her collection of guitars.

She named her ex-husband and father of her oldest child Jake, music producer John Reynolds as executor. They married in 1987 but split in 1991.

Sinead also left instructions for her funeral service. She asked to be dressed in priest clothing in her coffin and be buried with a Hebrew bible and her album Theology.

The tragic star was found unresponsive in her London flat in July 2023. Her cause of death was later given as an exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and bronchial asthma together with low-grade lower respiratory tract infection.

The chart-topping singer and activist had struggled with health issues over the years.

Announcing her cause of death a spokesperson for Southwark Coroners Court said: "This is to confirm that Ms O’Connor died of natural causes. The coroner has therefore ceased their involvement in her death."

However her ex-partner, journalist Dermott Hayes — who dated the singer for two years after ­penning an early biography of her called So Different — speculated she died of a broken heart following her son's death.

He told The Irish Sun: “From this you can surmise that a broken heart is a real illness symptom, and a cause of death.

“It doesn’t make Sinead’s ­passing any less painful. It was more to do with a broken heart than anything else.”
