Sister Wives star David Woolley revealed why he waited to kiss Christine Brown after she became upset when he wouldn’t on their second date.
While the couple has been married for more than one year, fans are currently watching the early stages of their love story play out on season 19 of Sister Wives. During a recent clip teased on TLC’s Instagram page, Christine, 52, told her children that things between her and David, 60, were getting “serious.”
However, her daughter Mykelti Brown argued that the couple has been serious ever since Christine “got mad that he wouldn’t kiss” her. Christine then corrected Mykelti, 28, and said she got upset after the second date.
“Second date, we went and [saw] The Little Mermaid. There is a song, ‘Kiss the Girl.’ It’s all about all these little animals swimming and singing trying to convince him to kiss her. It’s the perfect opportunity to kiss a girl. OK, it just is,” Christine explained in a confessional. “And he didn’t.”
David then shared his side of the story in his own confessional, explaining that he’s “not that type of guy.” He continued, “I’m gonna be a gentleman and I’m gonna wait and she just has to wait too, whether she liked it or not.”
“I am going to put it all out there. I was married to .. a guy for, like, 20 odd years with so much uncertainty,” Christine told the cameras, referencing her spiritual marriage to ex-husband Kody Brown. “And I am not entering a relationship with uncertainty.”
Christine confirmed her split from Kody, 55, in November 2021, and she remained single until she announced her relationship with David in February 2023. The couple got engaged in April of that year, and they wed in October 2023.
Their wedding was televised during a January special, and the lovebirds previously revealed why they wanted the ceremony to be shown on TLC during an exclusive interview with In Touch.
“We were talking about our wedding and things like that. And then just through the discussion he’s like, ‘Look, you have people that have been watching you for 14 years now and they’ve been following your story and now you have this romance and you have everything that you wanted. And I think they would appreciate watching it,’” Christine told In Touch while discussing the wedding planning process.
The couple went “back and forth” on whether or not they wanted the ceremony to be filmed, though David said that he thought Christine’s fans “would like watching it.”
“I knew that they wanted to be part of it, and I had no problem with it,” he said about his wife’s longtime fans. “It was different to see all the cameras and everything and all this stuff going on. I thought we were at a royal wedding, and it was like, ‘Wait a minute, this is my wedding.’ This is weird. Because there was too much attention going on. It was crazy.”
While David admitted that it felt strange to have so many cameras around, Christine said she didn’t “know anything different” after being on the reality show for so many years.
She added that their wedding felt “really intimate and small” to her. “We had a relatively small filming crew and I’m like, ‘Wait, I think it’s really intimate.’ And I think it really isn’t,” Christine shared. “I didn’t even notice the crew. I just didn’t.”
