Sister Wives’ Janelle Brown Says She Doesn’t Agree With Christine’s Casual Perspective on Sex

Sister Wives stars Janelle Brown and Christine Brown may have a lot in common, though they have different perspectives when it comes to sex.

After both Christine, 52, and Janelle, 55, left Kody Brown, the women discussed when their spiritual marriages to him actually ended since they could not legally divorce during the Sunday, February 2, episode of the TLC show.

“Apparently until you have sex with the next guy, you’re not divorced,” Christine told Janelle after Kody’s second wife pondered whether or not she wanted an official release from her marriage to Kody, 56, in the eyes of the church. The conversation topic was brought up after Kody’s first wife, Meri Brown, was granted a release from the church following their split.

However, Janelle made it clear that she didn’t agree with Christine’s argument. “I just think that’s bulls–t. I think that’s dogmatic,” she told her former sister wife, who she has remained close to. “I’m like, whatever. I mean, that’s a dogma I used to hear, and I used to be like, ‘OK, whatever.’”

Christine later explained that she first heard the concept from Kody’s last remaining wife, Robyn Brown, who explained the church’s take on sex and divorce to her.

“Robyn said in the church that we used to belong to, they teach that you’re not divorced until you basically have sex with the next guy,” Christine claimed in a confessional.

Christine – who married husband David Woolley in October 2023 – added that if she was Janelle, she would “skip it all” and just “go have sex with somebody then that marriage is over.” She added that Janelle being intimate with someone new would help her “move on.”

While Christine shared her casual thoughts regarding sex in an uncommitted relationship, Janelle made it clear that she viewed physical intimacy much differently.

“It kind of bothers me that Christine’s so flippant about, ‘Well you should just go sleep with somebody,’ because my brain doesn’t work that way,” Janelle said, adding that there were “boundaries” set into place for their family when she first married Kody in 1993.

She continued, “Otherwise, if it’s just some guy [that] goes and gets a girlfriend, starts sleeping around with just a bunch of baby mamas.”

Janelle went on to insist that she and Kody were once a “family” and their relationship was much deeper than just sex. The former couple welcomed six children together during their marriage, including son Robert Garrison Brown, who died in March 2024 by suicide at the age of 25.

“We are raising children together as a family structure, not just a whole bunch of women who are sleeping with some guy,” Janelle concluded in her confessional.

Meanwhile, Meri, 53, also revealed she had similar thoughts to Janelle regarding the matter.

“Until I have sex with somebody, that means I’m still attached to Kody? I don’t think it means that,” the mother of one, who confirmed her split from Kody in January 2023, admitted in a confessional. “I think it really is more for if you’re going to go outside of your marriage and have sexual relations, then now — that marriage is nullified.”
