Sister Wives star Janelle Brown revealed that she spent her daughter Maddie Brush (née Brown)’s birthday with her for “the first time in years.”
After Maddie celebrated her 29th birthday on November 3, Janelle, 53, took to Instagram on Monday, November 4, to post several photos of the birthday girl.
“Happy Birthday @madison_rose11 ! Yes I’m one day late posting but we were having so much fun yesterday I didn’t want to stop and make a post. It was fun to spend a birthday with you for the first time in years,” she wrote alongside the photos. “Here is the best wife, mom, daughter and business partner.”
Janelle concluded the caption by explaining why she and Maddie were wearing orange vests in one photo taken outside. “The orange is because it was hunting season and we were in the trees on the property,” she wrote.
The mother of six revealed that she celebrated the big day with her daughter amid Maddie’s estrangement from her father, Kody Brown. The family drama is currently playing out on season 19 of Sister Wives.
During the October 6 episode, Kody, 55, spoke to his wife, Robyn Brown, as she encouraged him to work through his issues with the children he shares with Janelle, Christine Brown and Meri Brown. However, Kody insisted that his kids had no interest in having relationships with him.
“Every time I talk to her, she spreads gossip about me to the rest of the family,” the father of 18 claimed about Maddie. “Our family was killed by gossip.”
Kody also alleged that Maddie and some of his other older kids avoided him during his son Logan Brown’s wedding in 2022. “They’re purposefully leaving me out of their lives to punish me for a crime I did not commit,” he said. “I am only guilty of not falling madly in love with their mothers.”
Just one day after the episode aired, Maddie seemingly clapped back at Kody by sharing a cryptic quote on social media. “A piece of advice. Never re-friend or re-family a person who tried to destroy your character, your integrity or your relationship with others,” the post read. “A snake only sheds its skin to be a bigger snake. If others fall victim and walk away from you because of that, let them … Sooner or later the snake will bite them too.”
Their drama continued to unfold during the November 3 episode when Janelle explained to Kody why Maddie chose to not tell him she and her husband, Caleb Brush, were expecting baby No. 3. The episode was filmed in 2022, and the couple has since welcomed baby Josephine.
After Kody asked why Maddie didn’t call to tell him that she was expecting, Janelle said that their kids were “feeling very estranged” and Maddie believed that Kody “hasn’t shown much interest” in her two older children.
“Maddie has observed to me that Kody has not been out to see her kids since Evie was born and Evie’s 3,” Janelle continued in a confessional. “Maddie’s like, ‘Why would I tell him that I’m having another one? He hasn’t really shown that much interest in the other two.’”
