Sister Wives star Kody Brown admitted that he “wasn’t in love” with ex-wives Meri, Janelle and Christine Brown during their marriages, adding that he feels “guilty” about it now.
“I’m guilty of marrying people I wasn’t in love with,” Kody, 55, said while reflecting on his past marriages during the Sunday, October 27, episode.
Before the admission, fans watched Kody reunite with Meri, 53, her sister and her brother-in-law after they helped move the furniture out of her Flagstaff, Arizona, home. Meri planned to give the property to family members as she relocated to Utah to run her bed and breakfast, Lizzie’s Heritage Inn.
After Kody stated that Janelle, 55, was “not interested in a relationship” with him following their split, Meri’s sister pointed out that he implied his ex-wives left him when he put little effort into their marriages.
Janelle later reacted to Kody’s claims that he never loved her, Meri or Christine, 52. “I just think that he has amnesia when it comes to the past because you just can’t keep up that kind of pretense for 20 years,” she said. “I know what happened. He can say whatever he wants.”
While Janelle said that Kody wasn’t being truthful about his feelings, she insisted that it was “fine” because she didn’t “care anymore.”
Meanwhile, Meri said that Kody’s version of the splits was his “current theme” and not the truth. “It’s getting to the point that it’s annoying,” she continued in a confessional. “Gosh, Kody, just man up and be honest.”
Christine announced she had ended her marriage to Kody in November 2021. Janelle followed suit one year later in December 2022, while Meri and Kody announced their own split in a joint statement in January 2023. The failed marriages left Robyn Brown as Kody’s last remaining wife.
Both Janelle and Meri are seemingly single after their spiritual divorces from the businessman, though Christine found love and married husband David Woolley in October 2023.
During the latest episode, Christine explained why Kody, Meri and Robyn, 45, wouldn’t make the guest list for her and David’s wedding.
“We’ll invite Janelle to our wedding, Janelle’s kids,” Christine said as she and David, 60, looked at wedding venues despite not officially being engaged. “Leon [Brown], for sure, Meri’s child. I am not ready to be around Meri and Robyn and Kody yet.”
The couple also explained that they wanted their wedding ceremony to be a grand occasion.
“We’re thinking minimum of 350,” the reality star told a venue coordinator about the headcount. “We have really big families. I have six kids but we have 18 kids all together in my family and then David.”
While Christine and David were in the early stages of wedding planning when the episode was filmed, they recently celebrated their one-year wedding anniversary on October 7.
“Happy Anniversary [David]. Gosh, I love you. It’s been incredible to have you as my partner,” she wrote via Instagram alongside several photos from their relationship. “I feel so blessed to be married to you and I look forward to the rest of our lives together.”
