Sister Wives star Meri Brown made a joke about her 2015 catfishing scandal while meeting Christine Brown’s now-husband, David Woolley, for the first time at a family party.
Meri, 53, reunited with the once-polygamous brood at a Valentine’s Day party and was introduced to Christine’s new man in a teaser for the Sunday, November 10 episode. In the clip, shared by E News!, Meri made a joke that poked fun at her past disastrous experience with online dating.
“I found him online,” Christine, 52, said of her new relationship, to which Meri giggled and responded, “You better be careful about that.”
The trio started laughing, with Christine telling her former sister wife, “You make a good joke. I like.”
During season 9 of Sister Wives, Meri struck up an online relationship with a man named “Sam,” who she thought was a business tycoon in his early 40s. After six months of online communication, she found out her internet lover was actually a woman posing as a man, who later leaked their private messages online. The drama put significant strain on her marriage to Kody Brown, ultimately leading to their 2023 split and making her the third sister wife, after Christine and Janelle Brown, to leave the polygamous family.
In the teaser, Meri acknowledged lingering tension with Christine, noting that their cordial conversation was simply them “being on their best behavior.”
“The whole process of our family separating and now Christine dating is just a little bit weird,” she said in a private confessional. “I’ve only seen Christine with Kody ever and if Janelle ever dates anybody, it’ll be the same thing. And if I ever date — when, when. I’m not saying if, because I plan on it, just not yet, but when I date somebody, it will just be another next step of difference in this family structure.”
Earlier in the season, fans watched as Meri went to meet with their church leaders in Utah to request a “release” from Kody, 55, which is considered a divorce in their religion. Although the father of 18 confessed that he “wasn’t in love” with Christine, Janelle, 55, or Meri during his marriages to them, he said he wouldn’t have ended his spiritual unions with them if it were up to him.
“When each of us four ladies married Kody, it was through our church. Obviously, we all can’t be legally married, but it was what we called a covenant,” Meri explained during the September 22 episode. “So, I feel like it’s best to terminate that because we’re not moving forward with any marriage, and I don’t want to be sealed to him for eternity if he doesn’t want me. You know, I’m at a place, like, ‘Let’s just separate this completely.’”
The mom of one continued, “When I was asking Kody how he felt about moving forward with the release, he was kind of resistant to it. You know, he said he didn’t want to acknowledge the authority of the church leaders.”
Meri’s split from the family had been brewing for a while. Janelle recently shared that Meri’s growing distance began when her only child, Leon Brown, moved out of their house.
“I do think when Leon left the house and she was an empty nester before we were, she started to develop a lot more interest outside of the family,” Janelle said during the Monday, November 4, episode of the “Reality Life with Kate Casey” podcast. “Because yeah, she had time.”
