Sister Wives star Meri Brown opened up to Janelle Brown about why she decided to move out of Flagstaff, Arizona, after she and Kody Brown went their separate ways.
“Earlier this year, it was in the spring, I decided I just needed to move and get up there,” Meri, 53, told Janelle, 55, in a teaser clip for the Sunday, November 10, episode shared by TLC on Instagram. “It’s just a lot of back and forth.”
After Meri’s split from Kody, 55, in January 2023, she began splitting her time between Flagstaff and Parawon, Utah, where she owns a bed and breakfast. When Janelle asked if Meri planned on living in Utah full time, Meri said yes.
Meri’s decision came as a shock to Janelle, who admitted in a separate confessional that she was a “little bit surprised.”
“But then I thought, ‘It’s about damn time,’” Janelle confessed. “I think Meri is loyal to a fault, and I think she is kind of that dog that keeps coming back because they’re loyal. Not to say Meri’s a dog, but I think she just has that kind of loyalty and I think, finally, she just reached her end.”
However, Meri was still unsure what Janelle planned on doing considering she had left Kody as well.
“This is a little bit weird,” Meri explained in a confessional during the clip. “Kody and I are now officially done. I don’t know, honestly, where [Janelle] stands with him.”
When the mom of one asked about Janelle’s plans, Janelle replied, “There’s not anything. I’m free. Kody and I have officially said that even though this was the understanding, we’ve officially said that it’s not working. I just think I need something different.”
Janelle added that she was “happy” after her split from the dad of 18 and said she was “at peace.” While Meri admitted that she was “alright” with the end of her relationship with Kody, she still said it was “weird.”
“It is weird,” Janelle responded, “but it’s not necessarily bad.”
Meri concluded, “I mean, I wish things in the family could have gone a different way.”
Kody and Meri struggled through several rough patches during their 32-year marriage, and in January 2023, they announced their decision to end their relationship.
“In light of a recent unapproved press release, we feel compelled to share our own truth, in our own way and in our own timing,” the former couple said in a joint statement on January 10, 2023. “After more than a decade of working on our relationship in our own unique ways, we have made the decision to permanently terminate our marriage relationship.”
The statement continued, “During this process, we are committed to kindness and respect toward each other and to all the members of our family. We are also committed to the continued healing of any and all relationships within the family so that we can move forward with forgiveness, grace and love.”
During the November 3 episode of Sister Wives season 19, which was filmed in 2022, Kody admitted that his relationship with Meri had gotten easier after their split.
“It’s interesting to me that Meri and I are safe enough with each other right now to joke around,” Kody proclaimed during a confessional in the episode. “The burden has been lifted, somehow or another, or at least in this moment.”
