Sister Wives’ Ysabel Brown Fears Stepdad David Might ‘Replace’ Dad Kody Amid Relationship Concerns

Sister Wives star Christine Brown’s daughter Ysabel Brown is getting candid about her fears regarding her relationships with stepdad David Woolley and dad Kody Brown.

Christine, 52, moved into a house in Utah with then-boyfriend David, 60, during the Sunday, November 18, episode of the TLC show, which sparked a conversation with Ysabel, 21, about the relationship and Ysabel’s dynamics with both David and Kody, 55.

“He’s gonna be a great stepdad,” the mom of six told her second youngest daughter.

“Yeah, but he can’t replace Dad,” Ysabel replied. “He’s not trying to, right?”

Christine told Ysabel that “no one” would ever “replace” Kody, whom the reality TV star spiritually divorced in November 2021. She met David online in October 2022 and came face to face with her would-be husband for the first time that December. The couple got engaged in April 2023 and tied the knot that October.

“If you need a dad figure, or a father figure, or someone like that, [David will] be whatever you need,” Christine told Ysabel as they stood outside her new Utah home. “I’ve always wanted you guys to have a great relationship with your dad, a great one. So David coming in, all that does is someone else to love. But replacing dad, no.”

In a confessional, Ysabel explained that she feared growing closer to David would further sever her already strained relationship with Kody. Many of the Brown family patriarch’s children with Christine and ex-wives Meri Brown and Janelle Brown have become estranged from Kody amid his splits from their mothers.

“I worry that my dad and the chance of having a really close relationship with my dad is slowly going away,” Ysabel said.

Meanwhile, in her own confessional, Christine added, “She wants a dad big time. But she wants her dad.”

Ysabel continued, “So I’m worried that my relationship with my father will be desolate, will not exist anymore because David will … Actually, I don’t mean to say that he would be that kind of person because he would only ever come into any situation with everybody else in mind and only with respect to everybody else as well. David, like, he comes off as a very present dad, like with his children. So I mean, how lovely would that be, right? So, I would love to have a relationship that is as amazing with my own father.”

While Christine and Kody’s split has affected his relationships with many of their six kids — including Aspyn, Mykelti, Paedon, Gwendlyn, Ysabel and Truely — his rift with Ysabel began during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Brown Family Entertainment founder refused to travel with his daughter and Christine to Ysabel’s scoliosis surgery in New Jersey due to fears about being in the public.

Ysabel later called her dad’s priorities “a little screwed up” on Sister Wives, adding, “And l don’t want to disrespect him because he is my dad and I understand, I do. I do understand why he’s doing it, it’s just really frustrating and really, really hard.”

Kody admitted during an October episode of the reality show that he regretted some of his choices.

“I’m just having regret cause the whole damn situation is breaking my heart. The whole thing with Ysabel going and doing the surgery and the whole thing with my family and this disparity in behavior during COVID. It’s really, really, really hard on our family,” he said.
