Sean "Diddy" Combs didn't make friends during his 1998 Saturday Night Live appearance — at least not with Ana Gasteyer.
The 57-year-old comedian called him out while appearing on the Wednesday, November 20 episode of the Las Culturistas podcast. "He, of course, shut down the whole building," she claimed, explaining that was an indicator of an "a**hole."
"You can tell the five a**holes in the six years that I was there when they would be like, 'So-and-so is in the building, everybody stay in your dressing rooms,'" Gasteyer said, noting that such behavior is "applicable" for presidential candidates, but not musicians. "Apart from that, it's really my house."
With Combs, 55, allegedly demanding a completely closed set, some of the SNL stars had a laugh over possibly sending Will Ferrell, dressed as one of his characters named "Ron," to interrupt the rapper's rehearsal.
"They were like, 'Wouldn't it be so funny if Ron just went in?'" Gasteyer said. "And he did." She recalled how Ferrell "went on down the stairs and he marched right in." The Loot actress said she still has the video from the control room where you can see Diddy rapping while Ferrell, as Ron, just walks around in the background looking really confused and "disoriented."
"It is the greatest thing that's ever happened, because what a deserved person to have their 'Kashmir' moment interrupted by Ron," the Wine Country star laughed of Ferrell interrupting Diddy's rehearsal of "Come With Me" featuring Jimmy Page, which samples Led Zeppelin song "Kashmir."
She also added that the music mogul "really did not roll with" the interruption from Ferrell and was clearly "very uncomfortable."
"But it was also just like, the artifice of all that faux importance. Like, what's going to happen?" Gasteyer asked, criticizing the "I'll Be Missing You" rapper. "You're gonna walk into the studio, and you're gonna be like, 'I'm in the studio. I work here.'"
Ferrell, 57, previously talked about the moment in 2020 for the SNL series "Stories From the Show," which also featured footage of him crashing Diddy's rehearsal. "Someone said, 'Ron should go up on stage,' and before everyone turned to see, I had sprinted out the door,'" the Will & Harper star recalled.
"I didn't really know what to do once I got up there," he admitted, pointing out that his "Ron" character also made an appearance during the credits of that episode.
Diddy is currently being held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, following his September 16 arrest and multiple bail denials. He is facing charges of sex trafficking, racketeering, and transportation to engage in prostitution.
The disgraced rapper — who was most recently accused by federal prosecutors of attempting to blackmail victims from jail — is also facing sexual assault lawsuits from more than 100 accusers made up of men, women, and minors. He has pleaded not guilty to the federal charges against him, and his legal team vehemently denied all allegations last month, stating that the Bad Boy mogul "has never sexually assaulted anyone — adult or minor, man or woman."
