[This story includes spoilers from Grey’s Anatomy season 21, episode six, “Night Moves.”]
Sophia Bush made her Grey’s Anatomy debut in Thursday night’s episode.
In the latest episode of season 21, the actress plays Dr. Cass Beckman, a trauma surgeon at Seattle Presbyterian Hospital. She runs into Teddy Altman (Kim Raver) and Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd) at a fancy restaurant while on a date with her husband David Beckman a cardiothoracic surgeon at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital.
When Owen and David are called into work because there are multiple traumas coming in, Teddy and Cass decide to stay out and eat dinner at the restaurant before deciding to go to the bar next door instead because the restaurant is too stuffy.
Over drinks and burgers, Teddy reveals to Cass that she and Owen are having trouble in their marriage due to their heavy workload. She asks Cass how she and David do it when they’re both probably just as busy, after which the surgeon shares that she and her husband have an open marriage, and it saved them.
As the night continues, the women drink more and have “the best time” they’ve had in a while. After a bit, Cass kisses Teddy, and she backs away, telling her that her marriage to David may be open, but Teddy and Owen’s marriage is still very closed, and she leaves.
When Teddy tells Owen about it later, thinking he wouldn’t be bothered by it because she thought it was funny and turned her down, the chief of trauma storms off and slams the door behind him.
While Bush’s appearance in episode six could’ve been a one-and-done, Dr. Cass Beckman will continue to recur on Grey’s Anatomy season 21, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
The actress is known for One Tree Hill and Chicago P.D. She also has roles in Love, Victor, This Is Us, Partners, John Tucker Must Die, False Positive and Incredibles 2. She previously played a doctor on Good Sam opposite Jason Isaacs.
Bush will reprise her One Tree Hill role of Brooke Davis in its upcoming sequel series, which she will also executive produce alongside co-stars Hilarie Burton Morgan and Danneel Ackles.
