Squeaky clean singer Donny Osmond considered getting arrested for having drugs

3 weeks ago 2

Squeaky clean singing sensation Donny Osmond has said he considered being arrested for drugs to give his career a boost. He has admitted he was on the hunt for a way to shed his “goody goody two shoes” look and planned to get himself arrested for being in possession of illegal narcotics.

Concerned about his whiter-than-white image and lack of “street cred” he said he considered orchestrating getting locked up to make himself look cool again in the late 80s after the idea was put forward by his publicist.

He revealed: “I have certain principles that I hold onto and it’s not like I was not curious, but you have to be responsible for the decisions that you make in your life.

“That idea of getting busted for drugs was a real idea.” But eventually the now 66-year-old declined the idea and vowed to crack-on making his career based on “talent not trickery”.

“I did consider it,” he admitted. “I knew it would work because at the time I was 20 years old and trying to figure out, okay, how am I going to reinvent myself. I would be in front of every magazine and newspaper all across the world. ‘Donnie Osmond busted for drugs.’

“So then I started thinking after the fact that yes, this would work for 15 minutes and then I would have to live with it for the rest of my life. What would my children say? What would my grandchildren say? Dad, grandpa, you sold out for what?

“So I did it the hard way. I just did it with my music and just get out there and keep doing shows. At least for me, it proved to be the right choice. The harder choice because yeah, you can get street cred immediately for doing stupid things, outrageous, outlandish things.

“But I would rather be known as a musician, as an artist who kept my standards, not a goody goody two shoes. Hopefully this doesn’t sound egotistical, but it’s down to talent, not to trickery.”
