Donald Trump’s tapping of former Missouri Rep. Billy Long to lead the IRS, despite Long’s previous co-sponsoring of a bill to abolish the department, prompted a question from Stephen Colbert on Tuesday.
Namely, do all of Trump’s picks want to destroy the agencies they’re going to lead.
There was “one redeeming quality” in Long, though, said Colbert.
The comedian pointed to a 2018 congressional hearing when Long shut down a protester with his patter as a former professional auctioneer.
“God, I love that. I hope that’s how he gets out of all awkward situations,” said Colbert.
