Strictly pro Janette Manrara has said there are potential plans in the works to bring in a new member of the family.

Janette, 41, has a daughter with her husband fellow pro-dancer Aljaž Škorjanec, 34, who she met on Strictly Come Dancing.

Speaking to the Walking The Dog with Emily Dean podcast, the American dancer said she and Aljaž had discussed the possibility of getting a dog.

Revealing that she had had a dog growing up in the USA, Janette said they recently had to say goodbye to a beloved hound.

On when she and Aljaž would consider getting a dog, she said that they needed to wait for Lyra to grow up and start school before considering adding a new member to the family.

Janette, who hosts Strictly’s It Takes Two programme, explained: “I grew up with dogs. We had a beautiful Doberman, Naako. Unfortunately, we just had to say goodbye to him this summer, which is really tough on the family.”

On why she and Aljaž won’t yet get a dog, she said: “It’s because we travel so much and we’re away a lot for work and between London and living up North I feel like the poor thing will probably live a lot in doggy hotels and not with us and it doesn’t feel right just yet.

“I think once Lyra starts school, because we’ll have to be settled and have to be in one spot, that will be when we can get a dog. But trust me, if it was up to me and Aljaz...I mean, we almost got one a couple of months ago and I had to put on the brake.

“I was like, no, we can’t. We just can’t right now. But when we see dogs, they’re just man’s best friend, aren’t they? They’re just such beautiful things. And I would love for Lyra to have an affection for her little friends. So we definitely will.”

This isn’t the first time Janette has spoken candidly on a podcast. Appearing on the Happy Baby podcast she said that originally she told her mother she wasn’t going to be a mum.

Janette said that this came at a time when Aljaž had admitted on their first date that he couldn’t wait to be a father, she explained: “That was like on day one in the conversation. And I had a very different story. If I'm honest, I actually sat my mother down and said to her: 'Mum, I don't think I'm going to be a mum.

“But luckily, I think I chose that I did want to be a mother and I did want to have a child because I found the right person to do that with. For me, it stems from 'I think I do want to be a mother, but it has to be with the right person. And when I met him (Aljaz) and our story started, that really shifted.”
