SZA enlists Ben Stiller to take the lead in her latest music video, “Drive.” The clip, directed by Bradley J. Calder, was released on Thursday (Dec. 19) and finds the actor lip-syncing to the moody R&B track while driving on a dark and rainy night.
As he reaches his destination of “nowhere,” and speeds off into the moonlight, the video transitions to SZA, in bug form. The insect form of the 35-year-old is only a bug from the neck up. From the neck down, her naked body glistens with a silver hue as she gets comfortable in the grass. The scene calls back to her album cover for LANA, the deluxe version of SOS due on Friday (Dec. 20).
“Drive” is the first track released from the aforementioned project, which was pushed back by a few hours as she noted that she and her team, “Had to get my mixes right lol ! All songs are delivered and Ingesting into the system as we speak,” as of Thursday night.
According to AV Club, SZA is a big fan of the television show Severance which Ben Stiller directs alongside Aoife McArdle. In May on social media, the singer demanded a “new season of Severance right the f**k now.” Stiller replied, “Ok ok got it.”
Teasing the music video on Instagram days before its release, the New Jersey native also confirmed “SEVERANCE SEASON TWO OUT JANUARY 17th”
“It was gonna be [‘SOS’] outtakes and some new songs, but it’s become more than I expected,” detailed the Grammy-winner to Variety last year of LANA. “It was gonna be really soft, because I had made all my screaming points, and I just wanted to glide and not think [too much] and get out of my own head — I was so happy to say some sh*t that didn’t mean a f**king thing.
She continued, “It’s definitely turning into its own album… and I guess I could drop a new album randomly because no one’s actually expecting that from me right now.”
The release of LANA comes just as SZA and her former Top Dawg Entertainment labelmate Kendrick Lamar are set to head out on the Grand National Tour starting in April 2025 in Minneapolis, MN. Watch SZA’s music video for “Drive” starring Ben Stiller on YouTube.
