Last year at the Grammys, Taylor Swift had fans cheering — and a few skeptics side-eyeing — when she used her brief time on stage to drop news of her upcoming album, The Tortured Poets Department. While it doesn’t seem like Swift could have possibly cranked out another album while on her massive Eras Tour nearly all of last year, fans are speculating that there will still be a big moment for Swift during the music awards show.
For anyone who might’ve somehow forgotten, the history between Swift and Beyoncé has some awkward origins. Back at the 2009 at the MTV Video Music Awards, Swift’s Best Female Video win for “You Belong With Me” was derailed by Kanye West’s infamous mic grab. West proclaimed that Beyoncé’s “Single Ladies” deserved the award instead, leaving Swift stunned and the crowd booing. Later that evening, Beyoncé invited Swift back on stage during her Video of the Year win, offering one of the classiest salvages in award show history.

Cut to 2023, and it seem like the two never experienced the super awkward moment. Beyoncé made a surprise appearance at the The Eras Tour film premiere in Los Angeles in October 2023. Swift herself gushed on Instagram, writing, “I’m so glad I’ll never know what my life would’ve been like without @beyonce’s influence. Her generosity of spirit. Her resilience and versatility… She’s been a guiding light throughout my career.” Swift then returned the love, jetting to London a month later for Beyoncé’s Renaissance film premiere in November 2023.
Now, speculation over Swift’s presenting gig at the Grammys has audiences wondering if the Swift is using it as an opportunity to make it extra clear that she and Beyonce are on good terms. One fan theorized, “It would be poetic if Taylor presented Best Country Album to Beyoncé. She’s the definition of an artist who’s transcended genres.” Others think it could be smaller but equally meaningful. “Swift handing out Best New Artist to a nominee who toured with her would be another nod to how Beyoncé inspires her leadership with younger artists.”
But of course, there are plenty of artists Swift has worked with in the past who she could also be presenting to. Post Malone, who collaborated with Swift on “Fortnight,” is up against Beyoncé for Best Country Album. Jack Antonoff, the producer and fun. frontman, is also up for several Grammys, including for his work on “Fortnight” and Carpenter’s “Please, Please, Please.” So fans will have to wait and see if Beyonce and Swift have a final big moment on stage tomorrow at the Grammys. The awards show begins at 8 p.m. EST. on CBS and to stream on Paramount+.
