A rescue dog's frightened reaction to being driven to a veterinary appointment has moved viewers on TikTok.

The viral video captured the previously dumped dog sitting nervously inside the car as his new owner drove him to the veterinary center, sparking widespread online discussion about the lingering effects of pet abandonment on animals. The clip, shared by user @nancybotwn on December 2, has been viewed more than 889,000 times.

Viewers were able to see the rescue dog, who had been adopted just a month prior, maintaining uneasy eye contact with his new owner throughout the ride. She indicated that the canine felt anxious about being left on another roadside.

An overlaid on the footage read: "Me and the dumped dog I picked up a month ago making awkward eye contact in the car because I'm taking him to the vet and he thinks I'm dropping him off in the middle of nowhere." Newsweek reached out to @nancybotwn for more information via TikTok.

The video has resonated deeply with viewers online, leading to it amassing more than 2,750 comments. Many viewers shared similar experiences with their own rescue pets under the post.

"I found my best Rosie girl on the side of the road when she was a pup," one viewer said. "We live in the country and I let her outside one day and she never came back. Never found her. Had her for five years. I love my Rosie girl."

"Awww, this reminds me of my baby, he still hates getting in t he car," another said.

A third added: "This makes me sad. I have a dog who was returned to the kill shelter three times before I got her, and she still shakes like crazy when we drive anywhere."

"Weird way my friend found to make her dumped rescue feel better: doggy seat belt clips. He gets clipped into the car and knows he's not going anywhere without mom now! Figured it's worth a mention," one comment read.

Another added: "Poor baby. Thank you. You were his angel sent from above. I don't know how people can just dump their babies off."

"That's so sad. Happy he found a home," one person commented.

The post had been captioned, "stuck [with] me lil' buddy," indicating that the dog has found a stable home at last.
