Ted Lasso star Phil Dunster will cross the pond to the United States for his next series role.
Dunster has joined Steve Carell in an HBO comedy series co-created by Bill Lawrence and Matt Tarses. The casting will be a reunion for Dunster and Lawrence, who co-created and executive produced Ted Lasso for Apple TV+.
HBO gave the currently untitled show, from Warner Bros. TV, a straight-to-series order in May. The series is set on a college campus and centers on an author’s complicated relationship with his daughter.
Details about the role Dunster will play are being kept quiet for now.
Lawrence and Tarses, who worked together on Scrubs and Apple’s Bad Monkey, are writing the first episode of the series. They executive produce with Carell and Jeff Ingold and Liza Katzer of Lawrence’s Doozer Productions. Doozer and Tarses both have overall deals at WBTV.
Dunster earned an Emmy nomination in 2023 for his role as AFC Richmond striker Jamie Tartt in Ted Lasso’s third and maybe-maybe not final season. He’ll next be seen in season two of Apple TV+’s drama Surface; other credits include a recurring part on The Devil’s Hour at Prime Video, Prime’s upcoming film Picture This and features The Good Liar and Murder on the Orient Express.
