It’s the question on every fan’s mind. Can Disney make Stitch look good in a live-action remake of Lilo & Stitch? Well, to date we’ve seen some encouraging images of the chaotically mischievous alien—but the first teaser trailer is now out, and the answer is clearly, “Yes.”
Directed by Dean Fleischer Camp, the man behind the incomparable Marcel the Shell with Shoes On, Lilo & Stitch comes to theaters May 23, 2025. Here in the first teaser, which we assume will be attached to this weekend’s release of Moana 2, we get to see Stitch wreak havoc at the beach and also get a few licks in. Check it out.
New actress Maia Kealoha plays Lilo in the film, a lonely Hawaiian girl who meets the fugitive alien. She’s joined by Sydney Elizebeth Agudong, Billy Magnussen, Tia Carrere, Hannah Waddingham, Courtney B. Vance, and Zach Galifianakis. Chris Sanders, the director of the first film (as well as this year’s masterpiece The Wild Robot), returns as the voice of Stitch.
We still don’t know just how faithful the film will be to the original, or how much Stitch is live-action versus CGI as seen here, but even in this brief 30 seconds, you have a sense that the goofy, heartfelt vibes of the original are intact and that’s the most important thing.
