The Most Anticipated Games Releasing in January 2025

2 days ago 3

It's a new year and an ambitious one at that with many blockbuster video games on the schedule. With heavy hitters like Grand Theft Auto 6, Assassin's Creed Shadows, and Death Stranding 2 coming our way, it's going to take us a while to calibrate ourselves following the holidays. That's why the industry is starting slow with relatively smaller games in January, which include some remasters and re-releases. Still, some new games have snuck their way into the month's schedule.

These are the biggest games coming out in January 2025.

Wuthering Waves (PS5)

Kuro Games' Genshin-like gacha Wuthering Waves was released last year on PC and mobile to positive reviews. The open-world game can run well on all systems, but it has been absent from home consoles, until now. Wuthering Waves is available now on PlayStation 5, releasing with the much-awaited version 2.0 update that brings a new location, Rinascita. Wuthering Waves on PS5 supports full cross-progression, so you can continue the Rover's adventure on any device you own.

Freedom Wars Remastered

Freedom Wars was one of the best games on the PlayStation Vita, Sony's ill-fated handheld that was ahead of the curve. Set in the far future, players explore large prison spaces known as Panopticons, while fighting giant monsters to reduce their prison sentences. On PC and PlayStation, the new remaster brings updated visuals and a 60fps performance mode, as well as updated gameplay systems and a fully functioning 7-player co-op mode. Freedom Wars Remastered releases on PC, PS4, PS5, and Nintendo Switch on January 10, 2025.

Donkey Kong Country Returns HD

Donkey Kong Country Returns is...returning. The Wii platformer is making its grand return with an updated version, similar to last year's Mario vs Donkey Kong, though it's more of a remaster than a remake. The HD version of the game will include all additional levels from the Nintendo 3DS version, along with two-player co-op support. Donkey Kong Country Returns HD releases on January 16, 2025, on the Nintendo Switch.

DreadOut Remastered Collection

When it comes to horror games, the DreadOut franchise isn't as well-known as its contemporaries, but it has its fans. The series follows Linda, a high school student, exploring an abandoned town with nothing but a flashlight and a camera. The remastered collection includes an enhanced version of DreadOut and the Keepers of the Dark spinoff, which includes thirteen new ghosts to encounter across eight new locations. DreadOut Remastered Collection releases on January 16, 2025, on PS4, PS5 and the Nintendo Switch.

Dynasty Warriors: Origins

A new Dynasty Warriors is coming to modern consoles, releasing almost a decade after the last installment. Origins will retell Romance of the Three Kingdoms more thoroughly from the perspective of the original nameless protagonist while featuring over ten thousand enemies on screen simultaneously. You can try out its over-the-top hack-and-slash action with a free demo right now. Dynasty Warriors: Origins releases on January 17, 2025, on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth (PC)

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will finally be available to everyone who doesn't have a PS5 console this month. The highly-anticipated sequel includes a seamless open world and over a hundred hours of content while retelling the original's story with some new twists. The PC port of the game includes improved visuals, DLSS, VRR, and high frame rate support, so you won't need a PS5 Pro to enjoy a blur-free experience. Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth releases on PC on January 23, 2025.

Star Wars Episode I: Jedi Power Battles

Twenty years after debuting on the PlayStation, Jedi Power Battles is coming to modern consoles. The remastered version updates the visuals while preserving the low-polygon design of the characters. There are thirteen new unlockable characters to play as, and you can play with a friend in couch co-op mode. Of course, there are also plenty of bonus levels and quality-of-life features like arcade cheats. Star Wars Episode I: Jedi Power Battles releases on January 23, 2024 for PC, PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.

Eternal Strands

Eternal Strands releases on January 28, 2025, on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.

Citizen Sleeper 2: Starward Vector

Citizen Sleeper was a stylish RPG with an innovative presentation, and its sequel is expanding its scope further into space. This time, you'll be able to go out on expeditions and bring crew members with you, while developing relationships with them and steering the narrative with a branching storyline.
