The truth about Barack Obama and Michelle's fake divorce over Jennifer Aniston: How the famous rumor was started

One of the major stories in the United States of America in recent weeks was the supposed marriage breakdown of Barack Obama and Michelle Obama.

Many reports emerged suggesting that the former President of the United States of America and the former First Lady were getting a divorce. Michelle's lack of attendance at both Donald Trump's inauguration and the funeral of former Democrat president Jimmy Carter.

As it turns out, the rumors were completely unfounded, especially the suggestion that Barack had been cheating on Michelle with actor Jennifer Aniston.

The story about Obama and Aniston first appeared back in August, with In Touch Weekly printing a story that featured phrases like: "Michelle betrayed as Aniston steals her husband's attention," and added bullet points that read: "They're obsessed with each other" and "Power circles in Washington and Hollywood can't stop gossiping!"

This magazine is under the umbrella of a media company has done it's best to help Donald Trump at every turn, as reported by Vanity Fair.

Aniston denied the rumors when she appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live in October. "That is absolutely untrue," she said. "There is no truth.... I've met him once," Aniston said of the former president, adding, "I know Michelle more than him."

She did joke that: "Of all the calls you get from your publicist where you're like, Oh no, what's it gonna be, or emails saying some cheesy tabloid is going to make up a story, and then it's that. I was not mad at it."

Gossip on Instagram

One of the main pushers of this story was an Instagram gossip aggregator account called DeuxMoi. On January 14, DeuxMoi posted that "someone [DeuxMoi] trusts did text me that a week ago" in regards to the former first couple being separated, "but I don't really know for sure."

The following Thursday, DeuxMoi published a new podcast episode on the story. Of the separation rumor, Deux said: "I heard that they were separated from somebody I know, but I don't know, I felt like it wasn't viable. It was just the rumor mill churning."
