Extractor hood filters can easily become clogged up with grease after Christmas cooking, but one cleaning fan has shared her go-to product for removing it that has worked for her in just 30 seconds.

Extractor hood filters, the fine mesh grates located beneath the hood, are essential for trapping grease from cooking smoke and keeping extraction vents clear to avoid clogs and more costly cleaning tasks.

What can be prevented is a heavy grease buildup that not only makes it filthy but also tampers with its efficacy.

To get these extractor fan filters stain-free and shining like new, Amy James shared a method that worked well for her on the Mrs Hinch Army Cleaning Tips Facebook group.

She wrote: “So I’ve used absolutely every type of cleaning product upon these for my extractor fan.

“Elbow Grease made the grime vanish within 30 seconds and has made it come up brand new.”

Amy’s post was accompanied by a photo showing one filter half-coated in grease while the other half gleamed from being cleaned with this method.

Curious group members were given further details when Amy explained in the comments: “The extractor fan was in when we moved in here and the last owner wasn’t a Hincher shall we say.

“I’ve tried putting them in the dishwasher and they still felt covered in grease. I’ve left them to soak. I’ve scrubbed with Cilit Bang but still no success.

“When we turned the fan on it smelt and I was adamant that we would have to buy a whole new extractor system.

“Then I just sprayed Elbow Grease on, used a toothbrush (I use for cleaning only) lightly to go over it and it came off straight away.”

Scanning through the comments, it’s clear Amy isn’t the only one impressed by the effectiveness of Elbow Grease spray.

Patricia Hawes chimed in: "Yep, Elbow Grease is bloody amazing, I did mine a week ago. Omg I was ashamed. I normally put them in the dishwasher, but not anymore.”

Kerry Shore added: “They always look sparkling clean when I spray them with Elbow Grease.”

Carolyn Covin noted: “Dishwasher brings them up a treat if you have one. But good to know Elbow Grease works too.”

Ali Barr said: “I’d never heard of Elbow Grease before this page. It’s game-changing. It literally cleans everything.”
