Michael Mosley leaves £1.7million to wife Clare after tragic Greek island death

This Morning star Michael Mosley has left £1.7million to his wife Clare following his tragic death on a Greek island.

A search for the broadcaster and columnist, 67, was launched on Symi this summer, part of the Dodecanese island chain, by emergency services, with his body being found four days later. He left his wife and two friends on the beach of Saint Nikolas to go for a walk. It's believed he was walking back to their accommodation when he took a wrong turn while leaving Pedi.

It is then understood he was heading north-east and ended up in a rocky, sunny landscape. He didn't have his phone with him and only had an umbrella, watch, rucksack, water and a wallet on his person. He walked all the way to Agia Marina but soon collapsed. Senior coroner for Buckinghamshire, Crispin Butler, said Dr Mosley’s death was “indeterminate” and “unascertainable”, adding that it “was most likely attributable either to heatstroke (accidental) or non-identified pathological cause”.

In written findings, Mr Butler said Dr Mosley’s death was not found to be as a result of homicide, suicide, or an accident related to injuries. They found that his death was 'likely attributable either to heatstroke (accidental) or a non-identified pathological cause'. And now, his will has been made public and shows he left his entire £1.74million estate to his wife.

Dr Mosley, famed for pioneering the 5:2 diet and sharing his wisdom through his book 'The Fast Diet', as well as impactful documentaries on the BBC, sadly passed away. As a tribute, in July, the network dedicated an entire day to Dr Mosley, prompting presenters and viewers alike to adopt "just one thing" towards better health.

He also hosted a programme on BBC Radio 4 named 'Just One Thing' and led the series 'Trust Me, I’m A Doctor', which delved into healthcare practices within the UK. Known for putting himself to the test in numerous television projects, Dr Mosley once spent six weeks with tapeworms inside him for a documentary screened in 2014. Moreover, in a bizarre experiment aired in 2015, he produced two black puddings using his own blood, aiming to demonstrate their nourishing properties.

Following his death, Clare confirmed the news and released a statement: "It's devastating to have lost Michael, my wonderful, funny, kind and brilliant husband. We had an incredibly lucky life together. We loved each other very much and were so happy together. I am incredibly proud of our children, their resilience and support over the past days.

"My family and I have been hugely comforted by the outpouring of love from people from around the world. It’s clear that Michael meant a huge amount to so many of you. We're taking comfort in the fact that he so very nearly made it. He did an incredible climb, took the wrong route and collapsed where he couldn't be easily seen by the extensive search team."

She added: "Michael was an adventurous man, it's part of what made him so special. We are so grateful to the extraordinary people on Symi who have worked tirelessly to help find him. Some of these people on the island, who hadn't even heard of Michael, worked from dawn till dusk unasked. We're also very grateful to the press who have dealt with us with great respect. I feel so lucky to have our children and my amazing friends. Most of all, I feel so lucky to have had this life with Michael. Thank you all."
