Timothée Chalamet Crashes His Own Look-Alike Contest in New York City

Timothée Chalamet surprised fans at his own look-alike contest in New York City on Sunday, where the rowdy event resulted in at least one arrest.

Chalamet posed for photos with several of his doppelgängers present at the event — many of whom were dressed as the actor’s most famous characters, including Willy Wonka and Dune‘s Paul Atreides. The Associated Press reported general chaos surrounding the event, where Chalamet was flanked by body guards and some fans seemed to mistake look-alikes for the real actor.

The contest had been previously advertised on flyers around New York and was one of several doppelgängers events hosted by YouTuber Anthony Po, with a $50 prize for the winner. Look-alikes were interviewed onstage about their plans with Kylie Jenner, Chalamet’s presumed girlfriend, as well as their French proficiency (the Little Women actor is bilingual). Miles Mitchell, a look-alike dressed as Willy Wonka, eventually took first place.

Thousands had RSVP’ed, and before Chalamet arrived, police ordered a group to disperse from Washinton Square Park, where organizers were fined for an “unpermitted costume contest,” per AP. One contestant was arrested.

Paige Nguyen, Po’s producer, told AP that what has “started off as a silly joke” then “turned pandemonium.”

Chalamet is currently in New York filming Marty Supreme, Josh Safdie’s latest project, an American sports drama for which many of the details remain under wraps. The movie stars Gwyneth Paltrow, Tyler, the Creator, Odessa A’zion, Penn Jillette, Kevin O’Leary, Abel Ferrara, and Fran Drescher.
