Tori Spelling wishes she did things differently when it comes to her split from Dean McDermott.
The Beverly Hills, 90210 alum *finally* divorced her husband of 18 years this March. This was after years of speculation and who knows how much separation. The whole last few years have been messy and complicated, but Tori simply refused to acknowledge there was a problem! Now that they did finally split? Tori regrets not doing it sooner for the sake of their kids.

While speaking on the misSPELLING podcast’s Tuesday episode, she explained she tried everything to keep Dean “in the house” for the sake of having a traditional family setup:
“My parents were married over 25 years, up until my dad passed. I saw a family always together, and so it was different and I always thought that, as bad as things might be between my partner and myself, it’s better to have their dad in the house, than in a different residence.”
She thought the kids NEEDED their parents to stay together.
Now though, after the split, she’s looking at things in a new light. The 51-year-old confessed the desire for her children to want their parents together was preventing her from making the best decision for her family:
“On my part, at least, the want of kids, just always wanting their parents together I think kept me from making—what was outwardly a better decision for them than what they saw between two partners … I think that kept me in the relationship far too long, and it ultimately, I feel, did a disservice to my kids.”
So sad… It’s never an easy decision to make.
There is one reason she doesn’t regret the extra time they spent in a relationship, though — their 7-year-old son, Beau Dean:
“I think he and I both were in a place where we might have separated or divorced before Beau was born. But we worked on our relationship, stayed together and I’ll never regret not leaving then. I’m sure he wouldn’t either because we wouldn’t have had Beau.”
Aww! The former couple also share four more children: Liam, 17, Stella, 16, Hattie, 13, and Finn, 12. So if we do some math, it kind of feels like she’s telling us how long they’ve been having problems. Obviously she’s saying outright they “were in a place where we might have separated or divorced” around 8 years ago, before Beau was conceived. But that may have been going on for as much as FOUR YEARS before then. Damn.
