Paul Danan starred in TV drama Hollyoaks in the early 2000s and he was a Love Island original back in 2005.

The TV star’s tragic death was announced today (16 January). He was aged just 46 and had struggled with addiction, and even had a brush with death after a vaping habit - however the cause of his death remains unknown.

Paul Danan was first seen on our TV screens 22 years ago on the Channel 4 drama Hollyoaks starring as Sol Patrick. He’s been described as a “beacon of light to many”.

Three years later, he joined the first line up of the premiers series of Celebrity Love Island in 2005.

But actors can find themselves hitting hard times if no gigs are lined up - and recently Paul turned his hand to another role to make ends meet.

Before his recent tragic death the star took on an astonishing new career path. Actor Paul told Mail Online he had taken up fixing phones to address fading finances.

He has always been very open and honest about the highs and lows of the often fickle showbiz world. And to make ends meet after TV work depleted, the popular TV star put his dream life on hold to take up mobile phone repair.

Dreaming of Hollywood fame, Paul originally quit Hollyoaks to pursue a career in the film industry. But he fell on hard times then too and has battled drug addiction on several occasions.

His addictions led to numerous admissions to rehab, with reports of him spending about 1M on recovery during troubled times.

His management released a statement about his death today: "It is with heavy hearts that we share the tragic news of the passing of @pauldanan at just 46 years old.

"Known for his television presence, exceptional talent, and unwavering kindness, Paul was a beacon of light to so many.

"His untimely departure will leave irreplaceable voids in the lives of all who knew him.

"During this difficult time, we kindly request respect and privacy for Paul’s family, friends, and colleagues.

"No further comments will be made at this time."
