RHONY’s Erin Lichy has shared a wild discovery she came across during a trip to Mexico. While preparing a party with her husband, Abe, she recalled the time she was introduced to Mezcal.
During The Real Housewives of New York City season 15 episode 6, Erin was preparing for an upcoming Upper East Side party she felt super stressed about – when she made an unusual comment.
Erin Lichy tried Mezcal in Mexico
Erin Lichy recalled the time she discovered Mezcal during a trip to Mexico with husband, Abe. She said, “Abe and I went to Tulum, Mexico, about 12 years go and our house manager came over.”
She explained how the house manager had brought over “non-descript bottles of Mezcal” and started telling them all about the history of the Mexican liquor.
“He was basically saying, ‘Tequila is the poor man’s drink. Mezcal is what we Mexicans drink,’ and I was like, ‘Somebody needs to bring this to America’,” Lichy said in a confessional.

“Finally, last year Abe and I had the capacity to start a new business called Mezcalum. We have over 800 accounts and were even approached by Met Lite stadium to do their own mezcal,” she added.
The low-carb, low-sugar, organic Mezcal spirit costs $59.99 per bottle and was, of course, born out of their love for the drink that began over a decade ago. It is made in Oaxaca.
RHONY star ‘introduced drink’ to USA
Erin revealed that “someone needs to bring this drink to the USA,” leaving fans convinced she is taking credit for the introduction of the Mexican drink, Mezcal, in America.
One viewer said, “Seriously Erin speaking like she discovered this hidden gem of a drink that she found drinking amongst the common working poor man on vacay in Mexico in her private villa. Puleez.”
Ron Cooper is the entrepreneur who, with the launch of Del Maguey in 1995, commercially brought artisanal mezcal to the United States and, eventually, the world.
