Tyler, The Creator shared a bit of his childhood in a newly unearthed video. On Sunday (Dec. 1), the California native shared a video of himself to his Instagram, showing a young Tyler pop-locking to Omarion’s “Touch.”
“2. Touch, 04-05 Dana Middle School Hawthorne, CA, tech deck chain hung heavy,” Tyler, The Creator, captioned the video, which appeared to be recorded as a part of a talent show. The future Grammy award-winner tried emulating Omarion in the best way, sliding across the middle school stage and even hitting the “heartbeat” dance move like O.
Young Tyler’s dancing may look cringe to some in retrospect, but the girls, and the guys, in the audience at that time went crazy for Okonma. Along with the adorable home video, Tyler’s post included a snapshot into life for the young artist at the time by way of several photos. One picture in particular saw Tyler rocking the mentioned Tech Deck skateboard fashioned as a chain a lá his idol and future mentor Pharrell Williams.
Tyler, The Creator has been running high since the release of his eighth studio album, CHROMAKOPIA. The project was released on Monday (Oct. 28) to critical acclaim, selling roughly 296,000 album-equivalent units in its first week. The LP raked in a massive 142,000 units in pure album sales, with 66,000 of those being vinyl sales—marking the best ever for the rapper in the vinyl market.
CHROMAKOPIA is now Tyler’s biggest streaming week for an album and the largest first-week sales of his career thus far.
