UFC 309 is set to kick off on Saturday, and it features two massive matchups between the arguably greatest of all time Jon Jones, who is defending the heavyweight title against the arguable greatest heavyweight champion of all time in Stipe Miocic. Michael Chandler is also set to rematch Charles Oliveira, which will be a five-round fight in the lightweight division to determine the top contender for the division.

One of the biggest storylines that appeared before the historic card was the UFC deciding to back to using the old gloves. There were multiple issues that fighters brought up about the gloves, including Jon Jones. Jones stated that the gloves did not feel comfortable.
"I'm really excited about the old gloves," Jones told reporters at Wednesday's UFC 309 media day. "I got sent a pair of the new gloves several weeks ago. I tried them on, and I thought they were tight. I used to fit in XL and in the new gloves, I had to put on a XXXL. The shape curve in your hands, they were very uncomfortable for me.
Now, with the UFC 309 press conference kicking off, UFC President Dana White clarified the news on the new gloves being done away with, and he revealed that will be the case moving forward.
When asked about the new gloves not being used for UFC 309, White stated:
"There were a lot of complaints, we originally created these gloves to stop eye pokes and we had good intentions with them. They didn't work out. People weren't happy with them. I actually made the decision. I called our Chief Operating Officer Ike Lawrence Epstein and said 'We're switching the gloves, I want the old gloves back.'"
Though the switch did come as a surprise, White also indicated that the old gloves are coming back for the foreseeable future. White was asked if the old gloves would be used moving forward, to which he replied, "Yes."
White also added, "The new gloves are now the old gloves."
Jones isn't the only UFC fighter who expressed issues with the new gloves, and now it appears that the entire organization will go back to what they were using before.
UFC data analyst Nate Latshaw also revealed that knockouts have gone down significantly since the UFC introduced the new gloves. Though that was a concern for fighters and fans alike, that will no longer have to be the worry moving forward.

Though it will be interesting to see who wins between the listed fights above, at least the fighters will be given a better chance to knock one another out by using the old gloves.
