Victoria Beckham says she 'gave a s*** less' about life after turning 50

2 weeks ago 4

Victoria Beckham is ready to pop the champagne as her fashion empire turns a profit after 17 years, and she's set to receive a significant accolade, cementing her status not just as an aspiring businesswoman but as a bona fide success.

She's also got a Netflix documentary in the works, expected to mirror the triumph of the Netflix docuseries about husband David.

David, who she married in 1999, won six Premier League titles, two FA Cups and the Champions League with Man United, and is the only Englishman to have scored in three World Cups.

But perhaps most notably, Victoria, who celebrated her 50th birthday on April 17, has found a new sense of liberation from the relentless pursuit of fame, reports the Mirror.

The mother of four—Brooklyn, 25, Romeo, 22, Cruz, 19, and Harper, 13—shared with Harper's Bazaar: "We've kind of figured out how to be quite discreet, which is just how we want to conduct our lives right now."

She reminisced about the days when paparazzi attention was part of the thrill: "I suppose it used to be fun to go out and be chased by paparazzi walking down Bond Street – and you would dress knowing you were going to get that. I don't want that any more."

Reflecting on her journey, she added: "I've been doing this too long... nowadays, there's just too much going on; too busy; too many kids to worry about. I woke up at 50, and I gave a s*** less."

In her conversation with Harper's Bazaar, Victoria expressed pride in her brand's financial turnaround, saying: "It's a huge accomplishment. The company has been through so much over the last 17 years – ups, downs, restructuring."

She concluded: "So, finally, to be able to say we're profitable is something I'm so proud of, because it's not an easy industry."

Victoria has reflected on the transformation of her brand, stating: "There was a point when this brand was all fires, and every day we were putting them out. But when I created the fragrance, that's when I believe that we turned from a brand into a house."

She openly shared her journey, adding: "I've spent years building the damn foundations. Now I can start really building the house. A friend was talking to one of the kids recently, and said I was a builder. And that's what I am."

She credits the Netflix series 'Beckham' for showing her children the extent of their father's skills on the football pitch.

Despite David's impressive career achievements, it seems his son Cruz was unaware of his dad's legacy, with Victoria recounting: "Cruz was like, 'I didn't realise that dad was so good at football'. You forget it was a long time ago. They were always at the games, but they were really little, and too young to understand."

Looking back at the challenging times, especially around the 1998 World Cup incident, Victoria mentions: "David was the same age that Romeo is now. That's a lot for a 22-year-old. When you're in it, there's that sink-or-swim feeling, and you just get on with it. And we had each other, and the rest is history."

The thought of her own child facing such pressures is daunting for Victoria as she muses, "But the thought of my Romeo having to go through it... I don't know how he would handle that."

Amidst this reflection, tonight Victoria is set to be honoured at the Harper's Bazaar Women of the Year Awards, receiving the Entrepreneur award for her successes in the fashion industry.

In August, Netflix revealed that filming had begun on a documentary series centred around Victoria and her fashion empire. Drawing a contrast with the Beckham series, Victoria explains: "It's not going to be as personal. I realise that I am a bit of a travelling circus, even when I'm at work, but this is very fashion-focused. But it's really shining a light on the business."

The December/January issue of Harper's Bazaar UK hits the stands tomorrow, November 6, with the full interview accessible here.
