Journalist and angel channeller Victoria Mary Clarke has led an interesting life. She grew up in the rural Irish countryside, moved to London in her teens and she’s always felt a deep connection to things that others don’t understand.
Aged 20, she began a relationship with the singer Shane MacGowan, and the pair tied the knot in an intimate ceremony in Copenhagen in 2018.
She lovingly cared for him during his battles with ill health, until his death just over a year ago.

Here, she tells RSVP about how she communicates with angels, as well as opening up about how Shane still talks to her, despite no longer being in the physical world.
To get into the channelling headspace, Victoria listen to music and burns incense. "It all helps. It’s good to experiment. I find music uplifting, if I put on Astral Weeks [by Van Morrison], I can go straight into a very beautiful state. I also like music with harps and Tibetan flute, along with Indian music.
"Some music is very sacred and it is designed to elevate your consciousness, spirit and mood. Smells are also important to me. If you smell roses, lavender or ylang ylang, they are very uplifting. I also burn sage and palo santo. Cold water like ice baths and breathwork also help me move into the present and take me out of my mind."
The angels communicate verbally, Victoria adds, and they often ask questions about what is going on, what you are thinking and how you feel when things happen. "They ask about what you really want to happen in your life, and what is stopping you. They talk to you like a life coach would – they figure out your patterns of thinking, thought processes and any limiting beliefs – what’s getting in your way. They can answer whatever you are looking for, whether that’s the right job, a partner, or a new direction in life. They will do your best to guide you."
Channelling angels has helped Victoria cope with her grief. "Channelling allows you to access the parts of you that are not limited by the physical, the part that doesn’t die, the immortal part. Shane and I very much had that kind of connection. We felt like we were connected beyond the physical.
"Now that he’s in the spirit world, I can still connect with him. I feel his vibe. It still is hard because obviously I want him here in the physical world."
Sometimes Victoria writes down things Shane tells her to write down. "He sends me lots of information and messages. He’s advised me about how to connect spiritually in a deeper way. Quite often I get quite distracted, he tells me how important it is to slow down, be in the present moment and do the breathwork.
"He also wants me to play music, he’s gotten me to play the guitar quite a lot. He mainly tells me about things he’s observed in me and things that will be helpful to get me into the channelling and creative zone.
"Channelling has helped me with my healing right now. It’s a very powerful thing to do, working with angels and putting this work out into the world. It feels very uplifting and joyful. Shane is very much supporting me in doing it."
Channelling is a nice thing for Victoria to focus on, rather than thinking about the past. "Instead of being like, ‘Shane’s dead’, we are moving into the next phase. I do believe when I die, he will be the first person I see. That’s helped me not be so afraid of death, he’s already paved the way for me, he’s waiting for me. "
