It’s a huge week for Chlöe x Halle fans. Not only did the pair perform together for the first time in two years, but the sisters made their British Fashion Awards debut, as global brand ambassadors for Pandora. ‘I was incredibly nervous and excited,’ says Chloe Bailey, one half of the musical duo, known for songs including Do It. ‘Looking out into the audience and seeing Rihanna's beautiful face and Anna Wintour and knowing that we were able to open up such a big moment for fashion…[was huge].’ The pair performed a remix of the Bee Gees To Love Somebody for the audience at the Fashion Awards, but away from the music, the pair’s red carpet looks were an event of their own. While Chlöe went for a black latex corset and skirt from Atsuko Kodo, her younger sister Halle, of Little Mermaid fame, opted for a white structural gown from Ellie Mister adorned with pearl and shell detailing.
‘I really love structural dresses,’ says Halle, adding how much she adored how ‘snatched and sexy’ her Fashion Awards gown made her feel too. For sister Chlöe, Zendaya and Rihanna are key style influences. They're 'unapologetically themselves’ she explains. It’s ‘the poise that they both have on the carpet; it’s really graceful and classy. They could pull off absolutely anything.’ At first glance their Fashion Awards looks suggest the pair would have no style crossover, but this couldn’t be further from the truth. Like any sisters, the pair frequently borrow (sometimes steal) an item or two from each other’s wardrobes. ‘Miraculously, we will end up either having our hair similar or our makeup or our outfit because we're that in sync even when we're not together,’ says Chlöe.
‘What I love about us is that, yes, we love similar things, but it's also very different.’ Halle praises her sister’s ‘amazing’ sense of style. ‘I feel like she goes for a really sexy, complimenting bodycon type of styling’. But becoming a mother has influenced her own fashion choices recently. ‘Especially after having a baby, I'm embracing more clothes that make me feel more feminine and sexy, and showing more skin,’ she says. One thing that's never changed is how much they love getting ready for an event though. ‘You can turn on your favorite playlist, you can have some wine, you can be talking to your friends, and just transforming yourself is the most exciting part about getting ready for a big night out,’ says Halle. Chlöe agrees, adding ‘getting glammed up, honestly, with hair and makeup’ is so exciting. But much like any woman, not every day can be a red carpet day. Outside of a glamorous event like the Fashion awards you can catch Chloe in ‘sweats and no makeup’. ‘Sometimes you have to remind yourself that you're that girl,’ she jokes. ‘Anytime I get ready for these events… I’ll look at pictures and compare like, “wow, that's what I looked like two days ago. Dang, girl”.’
