New year, new beginnings — same old Netflix.
By that, I mean it may be smartest to stick with your old favorites this month, as the new crop of TV shows and movies premiering on Netflix in January 2025 does not seem like much to get terribly excited about. Sorry!
And while there’s a lot of “content” in the bad sense of the word, there are a few bright spots: Cameron Diaz will make her return to movies opposite Jamie Foxx in “Back in Action,” and there’s also a new season of “XO, Kitty,” the delightful YA spinoff series of the “To All the Boys…” movie franchise. (Netflix made news recently with the news that Noah Centineo will reprise his role as dreamboat Peter Kavinsky in the series, so that’s a bonus treat on that front.)
Top Pick: “Missing You”
It’s not going to be “quality” per se, but if you need something to watch as you nurse your New Year’s Eve hangover, this twisty murder mystery, based on the book of the same name by Harlan Coben (who is an EP here) will certainly fit the bill.
Per a press release, “Eleven years ago, Detective Kat Donovan’s fiancé, Josh — the love of her life — disappeared, and she hasn’t heard from him since. Now, swiping profiles on a dating app, she sees his face, and her world explodes all over again. Josh’s reappearance forces her to dive back into the mystery surrounding her father’s murder and uncover long-buried secrets from her past.”
Starring Rosalind Eleazar, Ashley Walters, Richard Armitage and more, all five episodes will premiere January 1.
