Have you been putting the dishwasher pod in the wrong spot the entire time?

TikTok is chocked full of helpful hacks, however, one cleaning tip users have been suggesting on #CleanTok has recently been debunked.

There's been an ongoing debate about where dishwasher pods go, with many suggesting placing the detergent pod in the silverware basket or tossing it in there and letting it land wherever.

According to Southern Living, TikTok users might be wrong, and placing the pod in its designed location is best.

The magic pod contains chemicals and cleaning agents that are meant to soften water and break down starches and stains on dishware.

Appliance titan Maytag states on their site: "Unless your manual tells you where to place your dishwasher pods, the best move is to put them in your dispenser."

"Although some believe that throwing a pod in the dishwasher protects your dispenser, pods are designed to dissolve when they touch water and may not work if not properly dispersed via the dispenser," they continued.

KitchenAid notes that the prewash cycle, where water rinses away remaining food from dishes, does not use detergent.

Therefore, if the pod is not locked away in the dispenser it will dissolve too soon, not leaving enough detergent to properly sanitize the dishes.
