The Real Housewives of New York cast has become synonymous with pranks. Each of the Big Apple women loves a good joke. But none seem to rejoice in a bit of flim-flam more than Erin Lichy and Brynn Whitfield. Together, they are the dynamic duo who always find a way to laugh, even if it is at someone else’s expense. But was their three-way call with Abe Lichy crossing the line? I think so.

Some Real Housewives of New York jokes miss the mark

During their trip to Puerto Rico, Brynn and Erin decided to have a little fun at Abe’s expense. While the women were still getting over the sight of Jenna Lyons‘ extremely straight pubic hair, the two friends were a little tipsy and seemed to almost be flirting. There has always been an ongoing joke that Brynn would like to steal Abe the Babe away from the realtor. But in lieu of snatching a husband, the two settled on performing a prank call. But this call wasn’t like our sixth-grade sleepovers that started with “Is your refrigerator running.” Instead, the call was steamy and very flirty.

Erin started by dialing up her husband, who answered in a pretty jovial manner. Brynn and Erin got to work by noting they were cuddling together. Brynn then insinuated that she wished Abe could join the fun on the tropical island. The rest of the women were sitting relatively quietly as the call was placed on speaker for all to hear. As a viewer, it felt odd that Erin was trying to trick her husband into saying he wanted a threesome but wouldn’t let him talk about tripping on drugs while at a concert. The whole scene felt staged and icky.

Did Abe Lichy know about the prank call?

Thank God Ubah Hassan had some sense to shut down the conversation. She yelled into the microphone to Abe that everyone was listening, even though we suspected that he already knew that. After a lot of backlash from Real Housewives of New York fans, Erin commented on social media that she had texted Abe beforehand to give him a heads-up. But I don’t think her explanation makes up for entrapment. Somewhere along the lines, I missed the joke. I think I was more confused as to why the other women would want to hear any of that conversation. Personally, I’d be mortified to hear my friend’s husband almost pleasure himself.

The entire prank made me question the authenticity of Brynn, Erin, and the series. When you have friendships that a Bravo show has manufactured, it’s hard to be authentic – whether positive or negative. So, this season, it feels like they have relied on childish pranks to create drama. In this humble viewer’s opinion, it’s beyond stupid at this point. I would much rather watch Ubah complain about dead birds on a beach and Jessel Taank planning for a third child than anyone being held hostage on a phone call.

Just say no to RHONY pranks

Since the reboot of the Real Housewives of New York, the pranks have grown wilder and wilder. During Season 14, a prank on Ubah got out of hand while on their cast trip to Anguilla. The model had forgotten her phone in the car, but Erin snatched it up. To get back at her friend for pushing her in the pool earlier, she hid it. Poor Ubah was frantically looking for her phone as it was her only means of communicating with her family for hours.

Then, there was the pregnancy prank that went terribly wrong. Newbie Rebecca Minkoff and Erin spread a fake rumor about the designer falling pregnant with her side piece’s child. The plan was straight out of a soap opera and didn’t impress viewers or the women. The only semi-funny pranks have been at Jenna’s expense. Between the plastic cock roaches in her pavlova and pubic wigs, she has had the best material. But as for Erin and Brynn, I am really hoping they stop the ridiculous narratives and restrain from giving Abe any hope of a future threesome.
