Legendary gymnast Simone Biles, celebrated for her record-breaking achievements and Olympic medals, has joined Season 26 of The Voice as a playoff advisor for Snoop Dogg's team. While not a singer herself, Biles' role focuses on sharing strategies for stress management, stage confidence, and resilience-skills that are vital in both sports and music. Her goal is to help contestants connect with audiences and overcome the pressures of high-stakes performances.
Though Simone might seem like an unusual choice for The Voice, Snoop tapped the artistic gymnast himself to join him.
Why choose a gymnast instead of a musician?
Biles' inclusion has sparked debate among fans of the show. Some questioned her lack of musical background, suggesting advisors should have specific industry experience. However, others emphasized that The Voice values more than vocal talent, seeking performers who can captivate audiences. As a globally recognized athlete, Biles offers unique insights into thriving under the spotlight
However the partnership between Snoop Dogg and Simone Biles originated during the 2024 Paris Olympics, where they worked together in media appearances. According to Biles, her role on the show is to provide emotional and strategic support to the contestants. Snoop Dogg sees her as a motivational figure who can inspire his team to push past their limits and focus on holistic growth.
"We were able to riff off each other and give the artists the best insight going into the next round," Biles said in an interview with the AP. "It was pretty easy, simple. We're both very mellow. But if we need to bring that energy up, then we can. For us, it was about instilling confidence going into the next week."
What specific skills does Simone Biles bring?
Beyond singing, success on The Voice requires stage presence, stress management, and emotional connection with the audience. These are areas where Biles excels due to her extensive experience as an elite athlete. She highlighted that sharing her journey of overcoming challenges and building confidence can be invaluable to aspiring singers
"She's a performer. I'm a performer. We've performed under extreme conditions. We always do our best. But sometimes things happen behind closed doors that you don't know about. So, we're able to speak to those things and give them real reassurance," Snoop told the Associated Press ahead of the episode. "It feels good, [Simone] can do anything she wants to do. She picks and chooses what she wants to do. We're at that point of our careers right now. It has to feel good. It can't be forced or I'm not doing it. Period, point, blank."
Simone Biles' impact will become evident as Team Snoop progresses through the playoff rounds. While some viewers initially questioned her role, many believe her influence will inspire contestants to exceed their limits.
Biles' The Voice episode premieres at 8 p.m. ET this Monday, November 25, on NBC and Peacock.
