The JLS singer branded his wife’s two baby losses ‘a living nightmare’

JLS star Oritsé Williams was praised after he opened up about his wife’s heartbreaking miscarriages, calling them a ‘living nightmare’. The 38-year-old singer and his wife Kazz Kumar endured two missed miscarriages before they welcomed their ‘miracle’ son Shiva Zion Olumide Williams last October.

Oritsé admitted that their second experience of baby loss, after they had been told that the chances of it happening again was ‘extremely unlikely’, was particularly heart-wrenching.

‘I mean, it was tough. I was obviously in a new chapter of my life,’ he revealed. ‘I was recording and writing solo music, so I was trying to just focus on throwing myself into what I was doing at that particular time, but at the same time, trying to be strong for Kazz. And as a man you think, “Oh, you know what, if I don’t show any emotion, if I show that I’m strong, she’s not going to... it will be easier for her”.’

Things came to a head when Kazz confronted him about his lack of outward emotion. ‘I broke down, and I was on the floor, inconsolable, totally devastated, exasperating crying. It all just came flooding out, it all came flooding out,’ he said on Loose Women.

‘I said, you know, I can’t even tell you everything that I said, but I pretty much was saying to her, “Do you know how much I’m hurting inside? Do you know how much I’ve been hurt watching you be crippled?” I’ve watched the fact that her body has been struggling ever since (the miscarriages), her health has never been the same.’

Recalling their first baby loss experience, Oritsé said, ‘They said it was a missed miscarriage. We didn’t know what that was. We were so baffled, missed miscarriage? What even is that? And it just all kind of happened so fast, and they took us into this private room and started talking to us about how do you want to deal with the loss of your baby?’

He continued, ‘Any beautiful, great moment that year that happened, (you) might as well have just thrown it in the bin, because what was happening right there was like a living nightmare. And I’m looking at Kazz, Kazz is looking at me. We’re just both – we don’t understand.’

The NHS defines a missed or delayed miscarriage when no heartbeat is detected during a routine scan, or indications that the baby is too small for the expected stage of pregnancy.

The couple had a private scan to confirm the miscarriage, hoping that it was a mistake, and they were told that another missed miscarriage was ‘extremely unlikely’.

After their appearance on Loose Women, Oritsé posted, ‘It’s such a deeply painful experience – going to a scan with hope and joy, only to leave the hospital grieving the loss of your baby. Words can’t fully express the depth of empathy I feel for anyone who has gone through this. Thank you for opening your hearts and sharing your stories with me.’

The singer, who has eight-year-old son Omre with ex Aimee Jade Azari, opened up about missed miscarriages last year, saying, ‘Baby loss and miscarriage is a very, very, very, very difficult thing to be able to deal with. You’ve got a lot of question marks that will never be answered.'

He told Metro, ‘Women go through things physically, emotionally, psychologically when it comes to that type of thing but [so do] men. I was left with certain scars and open wounds that needed to heal. I’ve learned from that and have grown. I’ve encouraged other men to speak openly and have had a lot of men reached out to me, saying that was really helpful.’

Oritsé and Kazz – who married in 2022 – announced Shiva’s birth on Instagram in November. ‘Shiva Zion Olumidé Williams...Mummy & Daddy love you, young King. I’ve enjoyed every second of carrying you and growing you my Son. You are my whole world,’ he wrote.
