Taylor Swift's romance with Travis Kelce has continued to captivate fans, and detractors, alike as the two support one another in their highly successful careers.
During Swift's recently-concluded Eras Tour, Kelce, 35, was on hand to support his partner as she performed shows around the world. Swift, 35, has returned the favor, serving as Kelce's star cheerleader during his NFL games with the Kansas City Chiefs.
The couple made their first public appearance in September 2023, when Swift attended a Chiefs game alongside Kelce's mom. Since then, Swift has become a fixture at games—even jetting back to the U.S. from Asia to cheer him and his teammates on to victory at the Super Bowl in February.
As Christmas rapidly approaches, will their busy schedules allow them to celebrate the festive day together? Newsweek has looked at the clues that point to it being highly likely.
Newsweek has contacted representatives of Swift and Kelce via email for comment.
Schedules
Kelce will actually be working on Christmas Day, when he and his Chiefs teammates face off against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The game will be the first of two to be livestreamed by Netflix on Christmas Day.
On a December 18 episode of his podcast New Heights, Kelce said of playing on Christmas Day: "I'll play whenever, wherever. I just know that I'm so fortunate to be able to play this game that I'm gonna cherish every time I get to play on this field."
"I think it's gonna make it feel that much better if we can get out of this little three-game stretch with three wins," he added. "Make us feel a little bit more confident that we can get after it against some of the best teams week to week to week."
As luck would have it, Swift's almost two-year Eras Tour concluded on December 8 in Vancouver, Canada—just five days before her 35th birthday, and two weeks before Christmas.
While Swift could well have her next big project bubbling under the surface, she certainly doesn't have her grueling tour schedule to get in the way.
Precedent
Last Christmas, Swift was present as Kelce and his teammates battled it out with the Las Vegas Raiders in a game that resulted in a 20-14 loss for the Chiefs.
Following the game, Kansas City Star photojournalist Nick Wagner posted a picture of Swift and Kelce holding hands in a corridor at Missouri's Arrowhead Stadium to social media.
"Spent my Christmas waiting for these two lovebirds," Wagner captioned the post on his Instagram Story. He also uploaded the same snap to his Instagram feed where added the caption: "Merry Swiftmas to all who celebrate."
Speaking on his podcast days later, Kelce revealed that Swift's younger brother, Austin Swift, celebrated the day dressed in costume as Santa Claus.
"He killed it," Swift enthused as he praised Austin Swift's gift-giving skills. "He actually made me feel like a child because his gift to me was straight out of the bag."
Kelce further shared that Austin Swift "handed me a VHS of my favorite football movie of all time: Little Giants. I got a VHS Little Giants movie."
Romance
Kelce and his pop star girlfriend have sparked an avalanche of headlines since embarking on their romance last year. In July 2023, Kelce was seen attending Taylor Swift's concert at Arrowhead Stadium, his team's home venue. At the show, Kelce was seen trading friendship bracelets with fans.
Kelce later admitted on an episode of his podcast that he had planned to give Taylor Swift his phone number on one of his friendship bracelets at the show but didn't get the opportunity.
"I was disappointed that she doesn't talk before or after her shows because she has to save her voice for the 44 songs she sings, so I was a little butt-hurt that I didn't get to hand her one of the bracelets I made for her," he said at the time.
As it turns out, Kelce speaking about Swift on his podcast was effective, as the chart-topping singer revealed during an interview with Time Magazine last December.
"This all started when Travis very adorably put me on blast on his podcast, which I thought was metal as hell," she told the magazine. "We started hanging out right after that. So we actually had a significant amount of time that no one knew, which I'm grateful for because we got to get to know each other."
The stars' relationship became public knowledge in September 2023, when Taylor Swift attended a Chiefs game alongside Kelce's mom, Donna Kelce.
"By the time I went to that first game, we were a couple. I think some people think that they saw our first date at that game?" Taylor Swift said. "We would never be psychotic enough to hard launch a first date."
In a Wall Street Journal interview in November 2023, Kelce said that after shouting out Taylor Swift on his podcast, "someone playing Cupid" on the singer's team gave his number to her. She later texted him, and the rest was romance.
Taylor Swift has since become a fixture at Chiefs games, with NFL broadcasts often focusing on her presence, much to the exasperation of some football fans.
"I'm just there to support Travis," she told Time last year. "I have no awareness of if I'm being shown too much and p****** off a few dads, Brads and Chads."
