1923 Season 2 hasn't even begun, but that didn't stop its stars Sarah Randall Hunt and Brian Konowal from teasing the possibility of Season 3 in an interview with Newsweek.
The hit show premiered in December 2022 as the second prequel to Yellowstone and follows the Dutton family through a series of hardships including Prohibition and drought. The first prequel, 1883, aired in December 2021.
"I don't see how you can top the ending for 1923, it is so beautiful. But I'm certain the adventures for the Dutton family are far from over. I can't wait to see what Mr. Sheridan does next," Hunt said, referring to Taylor Sheridan—who created Yellowstone and its prequels.
Konowal added, "I wish I could speak to that, but I can neither confirm nor deny Season 2 being the last. That's a question best directed to Taylor, as it's ultimately his decision. But I absolutely love the Yellowstone universe and can't wait to see what Taylor continues to create within it."
Newsweek contacted Sheridan's representative and Paramount+ via email for comment.

In May 2023, Brandon Sklenar said the series will conclude after Season 2.
"No, no, it's bookend. It's still limited, but I mean we kind of—I think of it as one piece—it's just, there's just a split in the middle, but it's all one piece," Sklenar, who plays Spencer Dutton in 1923, told The Hollywood Reporter at the time. "It will conclude, um, yeah at the end of that."
Helen Mirren, who portrays Cara Dutton in the Western, added in the same THR interview that she likes things "to have a beginning, a middle and an end" noting, "endings are always very difficult, Shakespeare could never do endings."
"So I love it when you have the satisfaction of, you know, the whole journey and then it's over than when it dribbles on and on," she said.
Both Hunt and Konowal praised Mirren as well as Harrison Ford, who stars as Jacob Dutton—the Dutton family patriarch married to Mirren's character.
"I bow down to the brilliance of this woman," Hunt said of Mirren. "I'm a HUGE fangirl and have yet to have the pleasure of meeting her. Her work has always been and continues to be so bold."
She added that she met "the man, the myth, the legend" Ford this year, and "he was everything I hoped he'd be and more," she said. "Kind, sarcastic, life of the party. You can just tell how much he loves acting. Watching him work on and off camera was a masterclass in how to lead. The fact that he's also incredible on a horse—the man can do anything."

Konowal shouted out Ford's horseback riding skills too. "We were out in six below temperatures, and this cat was spinning a horse around, going full tilt cowboy, like a champion," the Pennsylvania native said. "He's the absolute best. The real deal."
As for Mirren, Konowal said working with her "was incredible."
"I met her on set, and she's so down-to-earth that she immediately put me at ease," he said. "You'd never guess she's won every acting award ever created."
In the Season 1 finale of 1923 titled "Nothing Left to Lose," fans were left with a slew of cliffhangers including Teonna Rainwater's escape and the fate of the Dutton family ranch.
"Fans can expect a very intense Season 2. There will be gut-wrenching highs and lows," Konowal teased. "Taylor does not pull his punches. I had a lot of 'I did not see that coming!' moments when I was reading the scripts. I think fans are going to love the journey."
"Taylor is really unpacking some interesting conundrums throughout the series, and the thing is action-packed," Hunt added of the second season. "Aside from the huge entertainment value, I just love the underlying stories of this series and of 1883. He really gets us thinking about who we are, where we came from, what we have to learn from that and where we're going."
"Hold on to your seats," she advised. "It's gonna be a wild ride."
1923 Season 2 premieres Sunday, February 23 on Paramount+.
