Winter storm warnings and weather advisories are in effect in 15 states, with severe snowfall and gusts predicted. The warnings and advisories are in effect in California, Maryland, Washington, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Idaho, Virginia, Alaska, Oregon, Wisconsin, South Carolina, Tennessee, Montana, Kentucky, and New York. The National Weather Service (NWS) has advised that travel in these places may be extremely dangerous, or even impossible in some cases. Northeast Pennsylvania and the Catskills will receive the most snow, with up to a foot falling in the highest altitudes. Since Wednesday, Winter Storm Watches have been increased to cover more of New York state.

NWS announces 'increased risk for cold and unsettled weather' this coming week
