A Kentucky woman is facing back-to-back life sentences after fatally shooting her sons last year — and blaming it on the internet.
In November of 2023, Shepherdsville police responded to Tiffanie Lucas’ residence after a neighbor heard gunshots go off in the mother’s home. Detective Richard Beahl, who was among the responding officers, noted in a subsequent court appearance he saw Tiffanie in anguish on her neighbor’s driveway. She informed him her kids, 9-year-old son Jayden and 6-year-old son Maurice Jr., were “dying” inside, per WHAS 11.
Police moved in and found the neighbor who made the 911 call with the young boys, who told them Tiffanie had shot them both in the head. They were transported to Norton Children’s Hospital, but tragically both succumbed to their wounds.

How completely awful. What in the world would cause a mother to do something so evil to her own children? Well according to her, it was Facebook.
Detective Beahl revealed in court last year he interviewed Tiffanie for three hours after arresting her, and that “she indicated that it was an accident.” He went on to report that Tiffanie had told him things such as, “I’m so stupid” and “I’m in such a bad spot.” She apparently even tried to blame her heinous crime on manipulation! According to WDRB, Beahl explained to the court she told him:
“I would never do anything like this unless someone manipulated me.”
Specifically, he added that Tiffanie “made statements that she was being manipulated through Facebook, through the internet or through Wi-Fi — through Facebook and through her Wi-Fi — being manipulated into doing what she did.” It’s not clear exactly what sort of alleged manipulation she was talking about. We have, unfortunately, seen multiple cases now where people fell into online conspiracy theories like QAnon and it drove them to murder their family members. It’s unclear if she meant something like that or some other kind of break from reality. But ultimately she pulled the trigger, and she accepted the consequences.
The mother was charged with two counts of murder, which she eventually pleaded guilty to last month. And on Friday, she went back to court to receive her sentencing — where Bullitt Circuit Court Judge Rodney Burress shared firm remarks:
“A mother is more than the giving of life. It is providing food, clothing, shelter, more importantly, love and security. I cannot imagine the sheer horror these children must have experienced seeing their mother with a gun. The sheer horror the second child had as he heard the discharge of that weapon with the first child, and maybe even both of them seeing their mother pull the trigger, taking their life.”
That’s so horrible to think about.
Maurice Jr.’s father Maurice Sr. also addressed Tiffanie during the hearing in a devastating victim impact statement:
“I’ll never see my son again. Jayden’s family will never see him again … they don’t have a second chance.”
Tiffanie was sentenced to two life sentences. We’d say justice was served, but… really there’s nothing made right after something like this. Our hearts go out to Jayden and Maurice’s families. Rest in peace.
