Woman Learns Dad Is Preparing for Hurricane in Most Gen X Way Possible

A concerned daughter has shared the video her parents sent her showing how her father was preparing for the imminent arrival of a Category 5 hurricane in the most dad way imaginable.

Mackenzie Greene was understandably worried about her parents as Hurricane Milton hit Florida. "They are based in Bradenton so the eye went right over them," she told Newsweek.

"I was definitely worried for a bit there, but I just kept praying for a hedge of protection over the house and neighborhood."

She was right to be concerned given the level of destruction that was witnessed across the state.

At least 16 people were killed in the wake of Milton, while, as of October 23, there have been 237,231 insurance claims made in the state.

Greene was worried, but her mom attempted to allay any concerns by sending her a video showing how they were preparing for the hurricane's imminent arrival.

It didn't quite have the effect she might have hoped though. In the clip, which Greene shared to her TikTok @kenzie.greeene, her mom can be heard saying they were "mostly prepped" and "all the furniture is in the garage."

But it's the next remark that made Greene sit up and take notice with her mom saying: "your dad is grilling right now."

Clearly her dad had very different priorities that day.

"He was grilling pulled pork," Greene said. "I honestly just laughed. I thought it was an ironic moment considering that I was clearly panicking more than they were and I knew my mom was being dead serious."

Greene's mom and dad even shared a picture of the results.

The clip had viewers on TikTok similarly amused. "Panic grilling. Understandable," one commented. "Why are parents like this?" another asked, with a third writing: "We have the same parents. I called my mom this morning and she said she was putting her wind chimes inside."

A fourth added: "I feel ya! My mom used to bake and stuff before a hurricane... it must be calming or something," with a fifth saying: "This reminds me of when a tornado was headed towards us and my dad was making lasagna."

"This is definitely typical for my dad," Greene said. "He's always laid back about the wrong things!"

Things ended up working out for them though.

"They called to tell me that not a single house in the whole neighborhood had any crazy damage!" Greene said. "A tree fell on one house, but didn't even puncture the roof. And our pool lanai screen is even completely intact."

All that and they had some pulled pork to enjoy during the storm.
