Woman Receives 'Weird' Text From Roommate, Can't Cope With What She Asks

A woman received a strange request form her roommate and was in stitches when she discovered what the message was actually about.

Christie Baker, who shares an apartment in California, shared the interaction on TikTok in a viral video, which has received over 750,000 views since it was first posted on December 9.

"I honestly just laughed. I'm never the type to take anything too seriously," she told Newsweek.

In the clip, Baker says she received a text from her roommate asking her to stop displaying potatoes on the dining room table because it was "weird."

However, Baker was confused by the text. When she went to check what her roommate was talking about, she realized that it was the bowl of kiwis on the table.

She told Newsweek: "I was like there's no way she is talking about the kiwis. I actually then replaced them with actual potatoes as a joke, and she wasn't a fan. She said that the house aesthetics are important to creating a welcoming environment and that I can put stuff in the bowl but could it be more along the lines of 'apples or oranges.''

Dealing with a roommate is a reality for many Americans. According to Statista, 7.9 percent of men aged between 25 and 34 and 4.6 percent of women in the same age range lived with a roommate last year in the U.S.

The website Roommate Expert says that if a person believes a roommate's expectations are "unacceptable" they should be direct in letting them know, have regular house meetings and consider the roommate's perspective.

Much like Baker, many people in the comments section of her post found the humor in the situation.

"The quantity of people who doesn't know kiwis is just crazy," said ArienFray.

Mishka commented: "Just ask 'would kiwis be better?' and when they say yes, change nothing."

"That is a weird thing to say. Maybe it's because potatoes should be stored away from light so they don't go bad?" user Raisin8888 suggested.

"Wait is it weird I display my potatoes in the big bowl?" OliAro asked.

Mel Mendoza joked: "Kiwis are bad for me but I respect your right to display them."

"I'm allergic to Kiwi fruit but they are so tasty. But they do kind of look like potatoes..." @Lumdeedums said.

Melanie Gibson-Brown quipped: "I'd text back and say, I agree, that would be totally weird if they were potatoes!"
