When Nia Campos, 33, was tucking her stepson into bed one evening, he said something that left her and her husband deeply moved.

"Dada, I have six animals, two sisters, two brothers, two moms and two dads. That makes me feel like the king of the world," the little boy told his stepmom and dad.

"I wrote it down immediately so we wouldn't forget," Campos, from Los Angeles, told Newsweek.

In a TikTok slideshow comprised of two photos, Campos captured her stepson's first day of kindergarten, where he was surrounded by his whole support system: his mom, dad and Campos who all came together to see him off.

The second slide is a screenshot in text message form of what Campos' stepson had said. She wrote on her TikTok video that his words made her and her husband feel as though they were "doing something right."

"Both my husband and I froze for a second and I squeezed my husband's hand while trying not to cry. We both hugged him goodnight and then cried in the living room over how sweet it was," Campos told Newsweek.

This moment was not just a reflection of her stepson's happiness, but also a reassurance that their co-parenting approach is working. She told Newsweek that co-parenting can be challenging for a variety of reasons.

"Navigating complex feelings from everyone involved, having two different sets of everything, merging schedules and making compromises, and of course, the hardest part of all is not being able to be together as a family every day," she said.

In general, though, Campos feels proud of where her family is and both sides work well together to always have her stepson's "best interest at heart."

Coming from a blended family herself, Campos has long been aware of the difficulties that children sometimes face when moving between two households but hearing her stepson's words filled her with pride and reassurance.

"When he phrased that the way he did, with so much love and positivity, it made me feel like we are all doing something right. He doesn't see it as a lack or a negative, but rather as something extra special he has," she said.

Campos' heartwarming clip has garnered over 350,000 views and over 22,000 likes. Many other TikTok users who have had experiences with co-parenting commented on the video.

"This is what I tell my son. The more people who love you the better," one read. Another user shared how their kids tell everyone how they have two moms and two dads. "It's such a good feeling they see the positive in it," they wrote.

For Campos and her family, these words are a reminder that despite the challenges, they are creating a nurturing and positive environment for him.

"I will forever treasure him saying that and hope we can always make him feel that way," she told Newsweek.
