“Late Show” host Stephen Colbert made a “weird” find on Wednesday as he remarked on Donald Trump possibly replacing Pete Hegseth, his embattled defense secretary pick, with Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.
The president-elect is reportedly considering DeSantis to be his choice instead as the former Fox News host faces allegations of sexual misconduct and excessive alcohol use.
But such a swap isn’t a “done deal,” Colbert said, as the Wall Street Journal noted that “some in Trump’s orbit strongly dislike DeSantis.”
“Wow! That is a weird way to find out I’m in Trump’s orbit. I didn’t know that,” Colbert joked.
He then turned to other possible replacement picks including Sen. Joni Ernst (R-Iowa) and former Pentagon official Elbridge Colby.

“Who, from the name alone, I have to assume is a block of cheese from the 1800s,” quipped Colbert on the latter’s name.
“And if none of those people work out, Trump could always turn to the anchor of Fox’s 3 a.m. panel show, ‘Stars and Gripes with Ardsley Blondeteeth.’”
