WWE Superstar Drew McIntyre Gives Honest Thoughts on AEW

4 hours ago 6

Currently, it seems that wrestling fans always want to see a wrestler from WWE or AEW bash the other company, likely harkening back to the WWF-WCW feud from the Monday Night Wars.

Such was the case during a recent live session on TikTok with WWE Superstar Drew McIntyre.

A fan asked McIntyre what were his thoughts on the "current AEW product," and he didn't hold back how happy it made him.

"I'm happy to watch all wrestling, especially when I'm off," McIntyre said. "When I was out that three months, when one person called me the entire time I was out, that's the time for me to catch up on everything. IMPACT, AEW, New Japan, the independents."

"I'm happy to see so many people I'm friends with making a full-time living. That wasn't the case when I was fired in 2014 and reinvented what it meant to be an independent wrestler, using social media as I still do to this day at the top level. It's been going since 2014."

"To rebrand myself, to see how much the industry grew in those three years, and it led to so many places and so many people making a full-time living. It's awesome."

If there's anyone who knows about establishing themselves outside of WWE, it's Drew McIntyre.

After spending seven years with WWE in some questionable gimmicks, McIntyre was released from his contract in 2014. He returned to using his real name, Drew Galloway, and established himself on the independent scene.

Along with indie promotions, McIntyre would wrestle under Insane Championship Wrestling (ICW), Evolve, Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA), Pro Wrestling Guerrilla (PWG), and more.

McIntyre then returned to WWE and was more dominant than ever. He quickly became the NXT Champion and found himself on the main roster.

McIntyre won the 2020 Royal Rumble and successfully defeated Brock Lesnar for the WWE Championship.

Some highlights include his triple threat match with Sheamus and Gunther for the Intercontinental Championship, winning the World Heavyweight Championship from Seth Rollins, and, of course, his feud with CM Punk this past year.

During his WWE tenure, McIntyre has won the WWE Championship twice, the World Heavyweight Championship once, the NXT Championship once, the WWE Intercontinental Championship once, and two tag team titles.
