Yankees Predicted To Trade $37 Million Pitcher To Mets For Dream Infielder

3 hours ago 1

The New York Yankees are reportedly looking to trade starting pitcher Marcus Stroman this winter and it makes perfect sense. New York is paying Stroman nearly $20 million and the righty wasn't able to crack the World Series roster in 2024.

Stroman is still talented enough to start for a lot of other teams, but after New York signed Max Fried, the righty doesn't have a spot in the Bronx anymore.

Jacob Mountz of FanSided recently predicted the Yankees could trade Stroman to the crosstown rival New York Mets this offseason. In exchange for Stroman, the Yankees would be landing their ideal Gleyber Torres replacement, Jeff McNeil.

Here's the deal pitched by Mountz to swap Stroman for McNeil:

  • New York Yankees receive: INF Jeff McNeil
  • New York Mets receive: RHP Marcus Stroman, OF Everson Pereira (No. 10 prospect)

"Jeff McNeil makes perfect sense for the Yankees for a variety of reasons. In an injury-shortened 2024 season, McNeil posted his worst season featuring a .238/.308/.384/.692 slash line with 12 home runs in 424 at-bats," Mountz wrote. "He struggled throughout the first half but recovered during the second half before hitting the IL. Pereira has showcased exceptional skill and performed very well in the minors, though his stint in the majors wasn't successful.

"Injuries hampered his production in Triple-A last season before being shut down. After undergoing Tommy John surgery last year, he should be ready to return for the 2025 season. His addition to the Mets would give them added outfield depth and provide some extra incentive for taking Stroman."

McNeil would be a huge addition to the Yankees. He may not be a game-breaker himself, but his production would be much more reliable than anything the Yankees have right now.

Stroman and Pereira would be welcomed additions to the Mets. They have a rag-tag group of starting pitchers right now and Stroman would give them a very reliable pitcher to place next to Sean Manaea.
