Showtime's hit survival drama returns Feb. 14, 2025.
Yellowjackets viewers, feast on this: Season three has a return date.
The hit survival horror and coming-of-age drama will return Feb. 14, 2025, with Showtime having some cheeky fun using Valentine’s Day to mark the return of its Emmy-nominated series about stranded teenagers who resort to cannibalism in order to survive.
The creepy and violent, albeit brief, teaser (below) announcing the release date certainly leans into the holiday, telling viewers to, quite literally, “Eat their heart out.” Season three will launch with two episodes, streaming and on demand for Paramount+ and Paramount+ with SHOWTIME subscribers before its linear Showtime debut two days later on Sunday, Feb. 16.
Created by Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson, Yellowjackets uses dual timelines to tell the saga of a team of wildly talented high school girls soccer players (the Yellowjackets) who become the unlucky survivors of a plane crash deep in the remote northern wilderness. The series chronicles their descent from a complicated but thriving team to savage clans, while also tracking the lives they’ve attempted to piece back together nearly 25 years later, proving that the past is never really past and what began out in the wilderness is far from over.
Starring as the adults are Melanie Lynskey, Christina Ricci, Tawny Cypress, Lauren Ambrose, Simone Kessell, Warren Kole and Sarah Desjardins, with Elijah Wood returning in a recurring role.
The cast of their younger counterparts is led by Sophie Nélisse, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Sophie Thatcher, Samantha Hanratty, Courtney Eaton, Liv Hewson, Kevin Alves and Steven Krueger (who plays the only adult in the past timeline, as the Yellowjackets coach).
Joining the cast in guest roles this season are two-time Oscar winner Hilary Swank and Joel McHale.
Missing from the adult cast list is original star Juliette Lewis, as the 10-episode third season will pick up after the events of the shocking season two finale where — spoiler alert! — Lewis’ character, Nat, was killed when she was accidentally shot by her friend and fellow survivor Misty (played by Ricci in the present-day timeline). In addition to the shocking ending in the show’s present-day timeline, the past timeline of the 1996 wilderness story also left several bodies in its wake (including one that led to an ensemble feast and another that remains up-in-the-air), anointed a new leader as they turn to cannibalism to survive, and left the surviving Yellowjackets team without shelter and in their most precarious position yet.
When speaking about her emotional ending and departure from the series, Lewis left the door open to possibly return in some form, but also said goodbye to the series. “I thought they wrapped up the characters really beautifully, and I just love good writing, so I was happy to be a part of it,” she told The Hollywood Reporter. “And I’ll miss my cast. Such a good group of girls, I love them so much. They’re going to do amazing.”
Yellowjackets is executive produced by Lyle, Nickerson and co-showrunner Jonathan Lisco. Drew Comins of Creative Engine is executive producer along with Jeff W. Byrd, Sarah L. Thompson, Ameni Rozsa and Brad Van Arragon. The series is produced for Showtime by Lionsgate Television and distributed by Paramount Global Content Distribution outside of Paramount+ markets.
