YouTube Shopping, an affiliate program from the video streaming giant, has been launched in India. The program has been announced in collaboration with Flipkart and Myntra. With YouTube Shopping in effect, creators will be able to tag products in their long-form videos as well as short content and earn a commission when any of the viewers purchase the item via the retailer’s website. To be eligible for the same, the creators are supposed to be a part of the YouTube Partner Program and have at least 10,000 subscribers on their channel.
How to enroll for YouTube Shopping?
- Open YouTube on your device and then head to YouTube Studio.
- Here you will see the Earn option from the left menu.
- After that you will see ‘Programs’, click on it and then click on Join Now.
- Now, you just have to review and accept the terms and conditions laid down by YouTube and you are good to go.
Eligibility criteria and other details of the YouTube Shopping program
First things first, channels that come under the tag Made for Kids or the ones containing kid-friendly content are not eligible to participate in the program. Secondly, music channels, official artists channels, and publisher channels are also not eligible to sign up for the YouTube Shopping program.
The commission rates for each video will be shared with the creators and they are only allowed to tag up to 30 items per video. Creators can also pin the products in their live streams, further improving viewer engagement. And the new program will work alongside other monetization tools b YouTube like Super Thanks, Brand Connect, Channel Memberships, and ad revenue.
